I don't have a picture because I feel who I am on the internet is a different person than the fleshy sack that is my soon to be corpse. In the real world I am a figure of anonymnity. Truely you can see me, and remember my face, but here I am InsomniacWolf. On xbox live I am InsomniacWolf. I am not meat, nor bone, nor flesh, nor soul. Here, I am simply a characterization of a dreaming cadaver.

Because I prefer to have a silly name and avatar that don't really make a lot of sense in combination.

Besides, I've posted my picture on this site plenty of times and I've seen plenty more "What do the Escapist users" really look like threads. I would suggest using the search bar next time.
This isn't the same kind of thread. That's telling people to take a picture of themselves and put it on here. I was just wondering what peoples reasons were for not having a real picture. But as i stated it really doesn't matter to me if you do just...wondered.

I have no camera readily available for picture taking. No camera = no photo of me. Also, rule 34. I would rather not have my picture involved in that...
oh god....good point there

This guy's who I'd like to be. I'd love to give up on trying to live a normal life and just go out and fight criminals, but I lack the dark past and combat training to do so. Give me ten years, and maybe.

Also, Facebook's linked (I think) so people can go see who I am. If it's not, it will be soon.

One reason there are no pictures of me on the internet is because I have no camera >.>
I do actually have a picture of myself, and I have a little challenge on my Formspring [http://www.formspring.me/Greyfox105] to have it revealed. But only if the challenge is beaten.
Otherwise I'll just delete it.

What people look like is of little concern to me, in both the virtual and real world, and I don't really get why people would be interested in seeing what I look like if they're not going to meet me in person. I would show pictures of myself if someone specifically asked -- I don't think I'd ever be an interesting enough target for identity thieves or such.

Because I feel some anonymity is good?
You can easily find my facebook though, so I suppose it's not that anonymous. But it's just a anonymous front that I suppose is needed.

WHY DON'T YOU USE YOUR REAL NAME FOR A USER NAME?
GAWD.

I dont reckon myself as Fugly, but I like to have a picture on a game forum of a game, hence my N7 mass effect pic.

Hi Mr. Google, I'm Capt. Crankypants, and I'm at the helm of this boat that we both seem to be in.

*Ahem* Anyway, I put a photo of myself for a few reasons.
1) First, (and most obviously) because I'm devestatingly handsome.
2) Because I take responsibility for the things I say, and am not a retarded troll.
3) As many funny Gifs as I have on my PC, none of them are the right size or are too large in filesize, and those that are don't adequately represent me.

There we go, class dismissed :D

No recent photos. I like this because it has generally no meaning and is as objective as I can bother to be while keeping a pic of something. And I like Fallout.

No it's ok just look at the cute kitty and ignore all things that you read before... Just forget your troubles. Are your eyes getting droopy yet? why don't you sleep while I don't put mind controlling robots in your ears?

Putting up a pic of myself never really bothered me, but avatars are the quickest representation of your interests so it makes more sense to me to have an anime char or some other picture up. If it's something slightly less well known it might even start up a conversation about the avatar and start a friendship.

I feel a large part of why people don't reveal their true identity on forums, online games, or the internet in general is that they no longer wish to be themselves after a day at work, classes, etc., and I think it's a large part of why forums and online games are so popular. When Erik Lawrence comes back from a string of exams, he doesn't want to be Erik Lawrence that evening; he wants to be Shado_Temple, the Huntsman Sniper. This form of escapism is what brought all of us here (videogames), and is why we would like to take on a different persona than that of which we use in real life. It provides the average person with a sense of renewed confidence; that they can be accepted for reasons other than those people normally judge upon in daily life.
