I like my anonymity on here. Plus, I know what I look like and I am tired of seeing it. I would much rather attach "my name" to something that isn't me. I would much rather escape reality. There is also the factor of I don't want my looks affecting my argument.

I don't put any pictures of myself randomly out on the web, especially on a gaming forum. There are too many people that like to right-click, save, then re-post elsewhere. I like being anonymous. You will still get to read my posts, which are a text representation of what I think and feel, but that is as far as it goes.
Question: Who is that in your profile pic?

I actually just removed my profile picture because of this thread lol.

I generally trust the escapist, but all your posts have now made me paranoid of, in a matter of speaking, identity theft. I guess I'm not really anything to look at anyway, and I doubt anyone checks out my profile anywho.

Because, although I am really quite good looking to at least one person here, what would you rather look at, a bearded teenager or an angry 40 something man who has a slight alcohol problem and is smexy?

If you picked the teen...ew. XD

I'm surprised that I haven't put up a real picture of myself yet. I am incredibly sexy, after all.

First off, I like being avatarless. Second, I don't really care to have my information on here since I don't consider this a social network as much as a forum community. "What's teh diff?" you may ask? The diff is that forums are a place of discussion, where a social network is a place designed to help you get to know your friends. There is not a single person on here that I consider an RL friend. I have three Escapist friends, and I know none of them personally. Two of them friended me, I forget why, and I friended the latest one because the gave me a good idea for a title if I were to ever become part of the PubClub.

Basically, I just can't be bothered.

I have an irrational dislike of photos containing people.
Don't know why, its something that I've always had (although I've only picked up on it fairly recently).
There are exceptions, but those are fairly rare.

There's a photo of me on my photobucket page for reference if I ever need to show myself, but aside from that I'll avoid using photos where I can.

Two reasons:
1)It's a pain in the ass to take a picture of myself, and don't have anyone here to do it for me.
2)My true identity is on a need to know basis, and the internet doesn't need to know.

I don't post mine because I'm a private person. I don't understand the need to broadcast myself to the world. Not that it's wrong that people do it; it's just not my thing.
Clutch is one of the best three bands out there. They don't get enough love, I'm happy you're spreading some.

OT: I'm not against it. People get too paranoid. If I choose to, I do. If not, then I won't.

Avatars are more interesting. They say more about you than just some picture of you.
Actually, no, wait, when they are some picture of you, they say a lot, too. You are either arrogant and want people to see you, or you are lazy and lack originality. Don't quote me with what you did it for, I am just saying that is the impression it gives off.

I am unwilling to even do that thing where you put a photo of you on your profile, though. I have recently gone from indifferent to the camera to actively contemptuous of it. I avoid lenses and flashing lights like some sort of mass spread illness of some description.
The few pictures of me that exist are terrible because I am in them.

I think that there are probably more pictures of Bigfoot in the world than there are of me. Never liked having my picture taken - dates back to those horrible mugshots they did annually at school.

I did scream "you are stealing my soul" at the last person to point a camera at me. Just fucking don't unless I say you can, I like my privacy thanks.

Personally, I have always been more interested in what people do/think/say than the way they look - a breath-takingly gorgeous fuckwit is still a fuckwit. On a forum where communication is key, anything else is redundant.

Three reasons, in descending order of importance:

1: Death Note. (No, really. It's hard enough having that doubt linger in my mind every time I see a stranger stare at me for a few seconds- I don't need to be consistently concerned about something so ridiculous.)

2: I am on the *internet*. My life is irrelevant here; I can be whomever I choose to be. Hell, I could start up a new account and tell you kids that I'm a girl. (Actually, I could do that with this account- doubt anyone would notice).
You can't choose who you are in the physical world. But here? I am a noble paladin, a vivacious acrobat, super hyper robot ninja. Honourable and openly silly, all at once. Why ruin all of that with bland reality?

3: Simple vanity- I am not an attractive person. Also I don't look good in hats, or even angle shots.

Because I like anthropomorphic cans.

On a more serious note, I think an avatar can be just another way to express yourself which using your own picture may not lend itself to.

Besides that, having a picture of a being of pure energy has a sort of 'transcending' quality doesn't it? I would think our picture choice can say as much about ourselves as a real life photo

I don't like posting my pic on the internet because I never know what will happen to it and I'm not pretty. The closest I get is my profile pic which is my desk two years ago... I should probably update it (it's still just as messy).

Well...I go on the internet to get away from the real world. By uploading my picture I'm bringing myself into something I go on to get away from things, e.g. my face, so it'd be pointless to be on the internet just to reveal myself to more people who will reject how I am as a person, and how I look. I don't know if you'll understand that, but yeah...
Internet = I become someone else, anything I want to be, I can try and believe it
Real life = I have to deal with my usual awkward self.
I can't understand people who post images all over the internet of themselves. I understand the whole facebook thing, they do it for attention or whatever, but on forums? Erm...I really have no idea! Not too bothered about the whole thing

I am much more recognisable through Randall Munroe's Pi symbol from this comic [http://xkcd.com/10/] than I ever would be from a picture.

The high contrast colours catch the eye a little more than the colours in your picture that blend well and don't catch the eye, no offence. It's also a very distinguishable picture, no one else here has Pi and their avatar so it also makes me feel a little unique. I also like maths.
