Why so much hate for Sony?

It pretty much made all the mistakes the X-box did when it debuted.

The infamous boomerang controller made everyone give a weird look, it made the 360 look better by being the most expensive of this console cycle and even had the NERVE to say "that's cheap" and "Sony gamers will do whatever it takes to get one no matter what." The PS3 lost crucial exclusives like GTA and didn't have a killer app until MGS4 came out, not every game uses/uses the Sixaxis well, Sixaxis DIDN'T have dual-shock because Sony believed "dual-shock was last-gen" and when it finally did come out was priced at $50, so you could pretty much buy a game at the same rate and the firmware upgrade screwed with a lot of units.

All in all, the PS3 is now the upper crust "big, black brick" console and the 360 is for the average joe gamer.

Might as well since i have nothing beter to do right now:

1. Yeah, the boomerang controller was weird but atleast they tried :\
2. The PS3 is actually cheap considering what you get for it and how it's priced, especially the $400 one you get pretty much everything minus a few features that don't matter too much (if you already have a PS2 then you wouldn't need BC)
3. I don't know if GTA4 was an exclusive to begin with, but I personally thought that Ressistance was Sony's first killer app even if it was pretty average it was still the best game when it came out.
4. Not every game HAS to use the SIXAXIS, i just find it a nice treat every now and again if the developers decide to use it. It's usually not the main focus of the developers but from what i've experienced with it it gets the job done.
5. The whole "Ruble is last-gen" thing was just a coverup from the lawsuit that the people who made the Dualshock controllers gave Sony. Believe me, they would have included rumble if they could but the whole lawsuit really took a blow to them. Though i'm sure that 360 controllers are also $50, but if not they would eventually equal that when you have to replace the batteries or unless you get a charging station. Same thing with the Wiimotes.
6. Regular controller with no rumble= $50. Controller WITH rumble= $55. You're basically just paying 5 extra dollers for rumble, that's a pretty good deal considering you still get motion control AND a brand new controler.
7. Depending on how much you think is "a lot" then the PS3 is being bricked a lot. I've had no problems with my PS3 and i've read all over the gaming webz and everyone i've seen so far has no problems with their PS3. The only thing i'm pissed off about right now is that until they put the update back up, i can't earn the trophys ;_;

Just wanted to point those out, hope i didn't sound to much like a fanboy >_>;

I suppose the hate is because people like to pick on the straggler, I know the PS3 is catching up the 360 but it had the lowest sales for a while, people like to be on "the winning side" it has happened the previous gen too, the gamecube and dreamcast were picked on a bit, and they were good consoles. Whatis interesting though, is if the PS3 overtakes the 360 in sales, what will happen? Will we see more 360 hate?

Well the PS3 is actually selling more than Xbox360 around the world (not sure about this month, i know for sure the other months), but I'm pretty sure that there would still be PS3 hate because either;
A) Nobody would do any research and just assume that the PS3 is still underselling
B) People would still rag on PS3 because it's winning and they want their own console to win
A and B are likely to happen.

I bought my 60 gig PS3 when they were first available. As an everyday, average guy and consumer buying things from the market I have never felt "ripped off" once by Sony. I bought their PSOne, I bought their PS2 and I bought their PS3. Am I a "Sonyfanboy?" Possibly. But it's really their fault for getting companies to release titles that I enjoy. Now there's one thing you have to understand about the style of games I play. No no...I do not run around and try to stick people with grenades OR try to jump rockets. I do not hop online and call people "Noobs" and claim female gamers are 8 year old boys. I'm an RPG kid through and through. And what has Sony contributed to the RPG world?

-They carried the Final Fantasy torch. (PSX to PS3)
-They introduced the Xenogears world to our hearts and minds. (PSX and PS2)
-They brought the Persona world to the light. (PSX to PS2)
-The Saga series was given new life on the PSOne and then soon killed off in the PS2. (PSX and PS2)
-Valkyrie Profile made it cool to die, as long as there was a Battle Maiden overhead. (PSX, PS2 and PSP.)
-Chrono Trigger remake, long load times...but the game itself is timeless. (PSX)
-Suikoden series anyone? (PSX and PS2)

And so many more.

Did this guy just list a bunch of titles that aren't even PS3 related?! I sure did. This thread is about Sony in general. And my PS3 has finally allowed me to retire my original series PSX and PS2 and is now proudly sitting on a shelf next to my SNES and Sega Genesis. I can play all of my old favorites with almost no load times and relive all the titles that made me the gamer I am today.

Why does Sony get a lot of flak? God knows why. They're a business and they conduct themselves as any business should: To make profit. Do they omit the truth at times? Sure. But I say let he who has not a told a lie cast the first stone. Not to mention if you think EVERY SINGLE COMPANY OTHER THAN SONY TELLS YOU THE TRUTH ALL THE TIME, well I just got a note from someone in your family telling me to tell you to sign over all your money to me. Would you do it? God no. Does every company tell the truth? Dear sweet Jesus I hope not.


In closing: My console is backwards compatible with two generations of gaming. Is yours?

The accusation that they copy everything has been dealt with already, all three companies have innovations and imitations to their names.Sony has the first duel analog controller, first commercially released development kit with 'Net Yaroze', and the Cell processor. Microsoft had the first console with an internal hard drive and built-in ethernet, and Nintendo has the Wii control system and rumble to it's credit.

That's how progress works. Someone innovates, others imitate.

Personally I lean towards Sony. Whilst I realise they are a massive corporation just like Microsoft, but they got me into gaming with the PS1, and so there my loyalties lie. X-box 360 does have better games at the moment, but PS3 is improving in that respect, while microsoft 'exclusives' like Mass Effect and Bioshock become available on PC, or even PS3 in the case of the latter.

Also, with the insane popularity of the PS1 and PS2 consoles, they greatly expanded the influence of the gaming industry as whole into the domain of the mainstream, whilst creating millions of new gamers, myself included. I think that much of the growth of the industry in the last ten years simply wouldn't have happened as rapidly as it did without the success of the Playstation brand.

and Microsoft was the 1st company in the tech industry to use temp. employees for permanent positions, reshuffling, laying off and re-hiring them when the temp. period expired. now this is an almost standard practice for every technology company in order to avoid paying for health care.

Ehh, its not outside of human nature to refuse the product because of practices surrounding it, I mean, look at The Gap and Nike, and the child labour thing.

ethics still have no bearing on the objective quality of either console.

with that in mind though, people buy pinapple in aluminum cans without question.. boxite from war regions of south africa, and agriculture from south american govt. land that was stolen from local farmers... so i doubt a small labor faux paux would stop these same consumers from buying a game console.

Has anyone pointed out that without Sony there would be no GTA or Guitar Hero?

Apparantly, some developers said that if there was no Sony there would no be advancments in console technology, which makes sense when you think about it.

Does really. Without the ps2, we all would have stayed with the N64, limitted to what it could produce. And don't say Dreamcast, cause that was doomed anyway.

Don't say the Dreamcast because you know full well that it would drive a truck-sized hole through your argument. It was way ahead of its time and in many ways superior to the PS2, but it was handicapped by narrow-minded, pro-Sony d1ckheads, Sega's recent bad form with supporting their hardware (Sega-CD, Saturn, etc) and Sony's bottomless pockets. They could afford to push it in the media harder than Sega could and also slip prominent stores some money to promote their product. I saw it in action and I know people in retail who fully own up to it. I watched a few people talking to the jerks in EB about what console they should buy (this was prior to the PS2 release and just after the Dreamcast launch) and all I'd hear them do was recite the Sony marketing speil word for word. You'd have the person asking stuff like
"What's that box down there, behind the stand, underneath the ladder?"
"Umm, that's nothing. In fact I don't even know what it's doing here"
"The box says Dreamcast on it, isn't that the new console I've heard a little about?"
"Highly unlikely" *coughs*
"But that game over there, 'Soul Caliber' says Dreamcast on the spine; the one you are using as a doorstop"
"Sooooo, like I was saying the PS2 has Tekken on it.."

The reason I dont like sony anymore is because they totally messed up SWG, which I played like 5 years ago. I liked the idea level up your skill system, which is used in alot of mmo's, but it was still awesome and easy to use. I also like that to become a jedi it had to be achieved, by some way or another that was very difficult (they're jedi, what did you expect). It was annoying but it always gave something to strive to. It was fine the way they had the system, heck I didnt mind the SWG:JTL changes either, but then they made it so you could be jedi right off the back, and to top it off I was about 1 day from becoming one. They also made unnecessary changes that ruined the system. Now alot of people still play this game (lol) and say that the system is fine but for people who played it in the beginning it is not the same.

Sony is the big boy on the market, it boasts it's power tenacity and technical superiority to all other game systems, So it's natural that everyone hates the winner and roots for the underdog.

The problem with that is that the 360 isn't the Underdog, the modest power and yet limitless potential of the Wii is. But those same people are saying the Wii is shit, and the 360 is the only decent console, despite its numerous proofs that it doesn't care about its fans (charging for Live, releasing wave upon wave of 360 with RROD, he next Banjo Kazooie)

Errr... i don't really see how Nintendo could be considered an Underdog in the console industry...

Ok here's my take on it.

When it was just Sega and Nintendo, the "video game war" was almost playful and cordial compared to what it became once Sony showed up, waving its digital wang in everyone's face and spawning a culture of arrogance amongst its fanbase. Even after they completely dropped the ball on the PS2 having only 2 controller ports again (hell they even said "it'll have as many as gamers would think necessary" PROTIP: That answer wasn't two), people were still riding the Sony wave. And then at E3 2005 they declared the video game war to be over, which seems odd to me considering the fact that it's still going on now. I'll get back to the main crux in a moment.

Sony is a far bigger company than MS or Nintendo. Sony after all has Sony Music, Sony Pictures, and Sony everything else (computers, Playstations, car stereos, etc.). And wheras in some big companies certain divisions might be more civilized than the others, it seems (at least from a lot of news items) that Sony is all around a group of people who openly show contempt for the people who buy their products and made them so filthy rich in the first place.

Cases in point are as follows, some of them personal to me or people I know.

1. Sony Pictures used fake critics to give praising reviews to certain movies (such as "A Knight's Tale). I'm not saying that's never been done before, but just stick with me
2. A friend of mine's Sony VAIO laptop was on the fritz. She sent it in because the keyboard was warped and the power supply no longer working right. Rather than attempt to fix it like logical people, they instead said it couldn't be fixed due to water damage (a lie), and sent it back so that when she got it back, it actually no longer worked at all, instead immediately booting to a blue screen of death. That's right, they broke something and rather than own up to it blamed the user. Compare that to my experience with my first and only red ring of death from Microsoft. Not only did they fix it for me, but it was for FREE despite my not having a warranty on it. This was before the "free repairs for 2 years" thing was publicly instituted as well.
3. Sony BMG doing such wonderful things like bribing DJs. Also there was the time they had their CDs install spyware on people's computers, and then declared "it's nobody's business what that does". And of course now they've declared that ripping CDs you bought with your money onto your computer for your own listening is still theft and/or piracy.
4. Sony's latest two big gaffes regarding the PS3. I won't list everything because I don't think that's necessary, so I'll just focus on the Motion-sensing and the Rumble. First off, motion-sensing was just them blatantly trying to go "look! We're innovative too!" since Six-Axis didn't even exist in the PS3 until the Wii's Big Important Selling Point was introduced to the world; the Rumble thing was just another case of digital penis wagging. If you're having trouble getting the rights, just say so. Don't make up a reason that roughly boils down to "rumble is for suckas"

Ok and I would be remiss to point out SCEA president Jack Tretton saying that PS3s wouldn't be found on shelves at all and that he'd pay a $1200 bounty to anyone who could find one and then having that point immediately perforated by Penny Arcade. No business is perfect, I know this, but come on, this kind of behavior is juvenile at best and ridiculous at worst.

Now I liked the PS2, but after all this, I refuse to support Sony any further. Too much bad blood. Microsoft redeemed themselves for me, and Nintendo never did anything wrong to me personally unless we count them optioning out the Starfox series to a bunch of monkeys and fanfic writers with computers and not releasing any more of the "Mother" series stateside.

Total and Monthly sales in a region. EX.360 is underdog in Japan and Mainland Europe PS3 is underdog in North America and UK. Wii is topdog everywhere.

The 360 can hook up any MP3/Video player that has a USB cable (including the unholy PSP and ipod)

I had a DS lost it (been lost for 2 years don't care) and only had a wii for a month then sold it.

Many pointless features on consoles are put on there to make sure stupid people don't cry.
To connect it you just have to plug it into the PS3 (I'e never done it so I don't know how long the connection takes). But if it takes that long anybody can find time. And if they don't have the time to wait they probably don't have time to play games.
And you can play music and videos just as easily on the PS3.

I'm 15 so I don't really know anything about or give a shit about laptops.
