No, no batman thread... sorry fanboys.
but I was wondering, A lot of games I see today lack a sense of humor. sure there are a few one liners here and there but they aren't that good.
And then those drab and dark level maps in lot's of shooters.

That's what I liked about games like GTA they never took themself too serious.
but if I play a game like oblivion there is no comic relief. until shivering isles came.
I just find a lot games lacking in humor.
As if "cool" games cannot be humorous.
I haven't played a game in a while that gave me the warm fuzzy feeling that lucast arts adventures or platformers like earthworm Jim of Aladdin gave me.
Or a shooter like armed and dangerous of even metal slug.

I admid I'm more of a pc gamers and there are still game with humour on consoles and there might be one or two on the pc, but mostly it's gloomy depressive shooters.
And for the JRPG haters. I'd rather see bright colors and a character that overcomes his "angst" than a pissed-off grunt in a grimm world. Like that isn't depressing.

It's not that I hate these games but I wanna see a game with lush outdoor levels and bright scenery. I cannot think of any recent western release ( as in NA/EU game, japanese games are quite happy)that is light hearted and brightly coloured.
what about you guys ?

I know what you mean. but their is an emerging genre of video game that puts more of an emphasise on humour than decent gameplay, see destroy all humans, portal or overlord.

Try Mercenaries 2. It has a goofy, kinda Rush Hour-action movie sense of humor. "Nobody shoots him in the ass and gets away with it..." is a line that I remember laughing to.

I love that pic.

Anyway, OP, you should look forward to Mercenaries 2, then, I heard the first was pretty funny, and the commercials for it look hilarious.

Team Fortress 2 is my favorite game because of the personalities the different classes have. The games industry would do well not to under-estimated silliness.

I agree

I mean Die hard vendetta on the Gamecube was great because it was gritty, but always had the self-resenting remarks of John McLean at totally irrelevant points.

OP,I agree with you thats what's wrong with gaming these days most of the games are FPSes or Free-roamers and most of those are gritty and dark.
But there are some games that shine through like the previously mentioned TF2 and portal, I also found that uncharted, pain and rachet and clank:ToD where quite funny and colourful.
Although take a game like assassins creed it's colourful and it's not because sometimes it seems brown and grey and other times a whole spetrum can be on screen, and i happen to find slaughtering all faiths and watching their bodies twitch is quite humorus.

EDIT:eek:blivion can be quite funny if a freind is watching an commenting also i had a quite humorus time "i've fought mudcrabs fiercer than you!"*gets raped by 7 mudcrabs*

I haven't played portal sadly.
One of my favorite game series is Disgaea (1 2 & 3) all in all from its wacky humor.

Some games have humor where it shouldn't be, like the whole serious convo. that someone says something worded funny. The characters might not see it, but its always funny to catch them while playing. (could not think of exaples at this time)

Jak & Daxter thrillogy. The scenes with Daxter are some of the funniest scenes in video game history. R&C tools of destruction is also a good laugh.

If you want to have fun, be an asshole in any online game and laugh at the people telling you to stop.
Always works for me...

I play games to have fun. It doesn't matter if the games are serious or not, IMHO. You can always find something to laugh at.

God Hand and the Shadow Hearts series are good exaples of games that doesn´t take themselves seriously.

Dead Rising - following in the classic traditions of zombie films everywhere, the gore is plentiful, the survivors inept and the deatsh hilarious.

Also, that clown. Both comical, yet horrifying.

I dunno... there's a lot of silly dialogue in Oblivion. It's a lot more light-hearted than Morrowind in my opinion. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go talk to the alchemist in Skingrad (the necrophiliac) or the Argonian hunter (deer penis!) in Leyawiin. Idling NPC's also say some strange stuff sometimes.

I don't think games have less comedy than they used to. It's just that there has become more focus on "mature" games that are all dark and edgy (but not always very fun) because the market has expanded to include more and older people. A lot of great examples has been given already. Half-life 2 and Halo though rather serious at times, has tons of comic relief as well.

Sam and Max is pretty funny, even if it is getting a little stale by today's standards.

Also, I've heard good things about Strongbad's Cool Game for Attractive People.
