Well, for me it's mostly cultural chauvinism, mixed with a bit of instinctive racism. That being said, I still watch the stuff (hentai and regular), so I'm fairly adaptable.

Personally I don't hate anime, I've only really watched one series that ever interested me (D.Grayman). It's the fact that most anime seems to be incredibly over the top that puts me off, that and bad cosplayers, I like to see it when it's done well but when fat white people try and dress up as skinny japanese girls it makes me die a little inside.

I don't hate all anime. I hate some anime because
1. Has gotten so full of itself it becomes a shell of it's former glory
2. Main characters never age and also don't look their age
And many other reasons which are just tiny things that irk me.

most... not all

because i can't tell the difference between most animes, save the setting. All animes with giant robots are pretty much the same. All of them with swords are pretty much the same.

Same characters, same stupid powers, same cliches.

If you switched back and forth between three or four animes of the same genre/setting I would likely be unable to tell when you've switched on me.

I love Studio Ghibli and a lot of other anime, but there's too much of a culture around anime here in the west that spoils it. Bloody animu.

I like the Studio Ghibli movies that I've seen however strange they may be. It's the series that I don't like, incredibly hard to follow, over the top and generally annoying most of the time.

A lot of the problems with anime is how infrequently change comes by, It's always giant robots, kids running around a fictional world swinning swords twice their size, or an awkward teenager getting into so many sexual situations you really have to start questioning his motives.

That doesn't mean all anime is bad, of course, Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL, Full Metal Alchemist, there's some really good stuff out there.

Because I moved past watching cartoons (save The Simpsons) when I was about... 11? Perhaps.
I don't care if it's as normal in Japan as suing people is in the US, it's still a cartoon.

Also, as said before, the fans are untolerable: the fanatically defend their favourite show without any fundament. And simply asking the question "why do you hate Anime?" means you're a fanatic. To put it in other words, I love Sarah Brightman's music, and I would do anything in my power to get my hands on more of it, and there's no amount of money I wouldn't pay to see her perform live, but I can completely understand why some may dislike or even hate her music.

I used to be into Anime in Highschool and College but I've since lost interest in the majority of it, no particular reason why. I still love some of the stuff I collected over the years but I just don't have the time anymore.

The problem I have with American stuff is that's it's always the same grizzled main character, the same obvious romance plot, the same gun-fights over and over.

See?

As someone else pointed out there is a lot of crappy anime just as there is a lot of crappy American entertainment. There is some really good stuff in both categories, though. So saying you hate all anime or all American television is just being ignorant, and announcing it proudly to the world.

I can't even begin to describe my hatred for anime. Mostly because I don't know exactly why. I just do. Probably something to do with me being a hardcore gamer.

It's not so much the content as it is the fanbase. Never before have I met a group so annoying and obnoxious as the weeaboos. When you've got a group as rabid, whiny, and awkward as the anime-lovers, it's pretty hard not to hate them. I once went to a convention of those freaks and I was beside myself with nerdrage. There's just something inherently hate-inspiring about those people. Of course, comic-cons are pretty detestable when the subject matter is Western, but when you throw in the general creepiness of Japanese sub-cultures, well, then you've just gone too far.

-90% of the anime they make is NOT made with you in its target range. Anime is actually a far greater industry in Japan and is actually how western animation should be (other than better drawn) as well as TV. If you are a boy...there's an anime for you. If you are a girl, there is an anime for you. If you are a single mother of five with a Muffin Fetish, there is an anime for you. If you are into watching people jump around because they really really have to pee, there is an anime for you. Sure you got esoteric things but everything out here seems to want to be appealing to EVERYONE.

-I have to say the vast majority of the men in anime are voiced by the same guy, because they all sound like a text-to-speech program and have slightly more emotion than one. And girls in anime I'm surprised haven't passed out repeatedly in the recording studio considering how much helium they inhale before each line. (I've NEVER met a Japanese girl who manages to get their voice pitch as high as the average girl in animes are.)

-People hate the artstyle.

-Japanese animes when you get them subbed tend to add a lot of subtle japanese cultural references only someone FROM Japan would actually get, hence why you have to see an explanation on the top of the screen or a little side-note in between the manga panels.

-Considering Japan, the capital of Sexual Deviancy, thinks people being kicked in the balls or watching people with a full bladder is erotic...that stuff would DEFINITELY not fly anywhere else. Heck probalby not even in Europe.

-If you put a show or game meant for children in which Big Breasted Bimbo's boobs jiggle like jello or a little boy flies into the main character's room stark naked while a recurring character sings "Breasts to pluck"...it's gonna get canned faster than you can say "Zatch Bell".

-Shota and Lolli are probably illegal in the rest of the world.

I have nothing against Anime, I got over it... I still like those with lots of blood and violence, basically because you don't get that in any other cartoons, but I'm beyond that age when cartoons actually interest me, and my nickname is an artifact of that time.

What I don't understand though, is why some people downright hate it. A friend of mine (who likes drawing) just hates the art style. Over-proportioned eyes and boobs make for a barbie show I guess...

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the fact that it's Japanese means it's not going to change anytime soon. You know how hard they've let up the samurai sword for the gun, right?

I like anime, especially the newer stuff that's been coming out with extremely interesting plots (Code Geass, Death Note), but I will admit to hating the uber-fans. Plus, I hate the American kids who instantly start thinking that Japan is the ultimate country ever and they rule the world just because they made anime.
