The other day I was playing Uncharted 2 online multiplayer. A woman suddenly started ranting and targeting me completely unprovoked. I muted and blocked her and wondered why anyone would make a party w/ her. I later checked to see if maybe I truly was the noob she tried to make me out to be when I found that Uncharted 2 is her only game and where I am a level 41 she is a 20. Anyway, what warrants such nastiness? I know that's always a risk in online play, but I don't understand it. Any thoughts? Am I being too sensitive?

You occasionally encounter the random oddball of the bunch, just like you occasionally have a bad day. It happens; you win some, you lose some. Don't take it personally and don't hold it against her.

Hmm. I think that NOW is the time for the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory:

While logical in the context of the internet, it must be noted that that equals sign notates "Can equal", not "Will equal".

There's always nutters, and games can attract them. You don't need to be social to play a game, unlike staying within a RL community.

Yeah, it's not nice if someone's ragging on you, but that's what the ignore function is for. If you're feeling angry about someone online, I suggest logging off and doing something else for a bit. Can help with moving on and forgetting what annoyed you in the first place.

I did and after thinking it over I realised I have met so many other people who were much kinder.

Because people online are shit (no offense, Escapist community, you're one of the few non-shit online people I've encountered in ages). I never, ever play with the microphone options turned on online, unless I'm only talking to people I actually know.
That's actually a very good idea. I like the idea of "community" but it's true I will come across some jerks inevitably.
