I'm an atheist too, and I don't see what that has to do with anything. It was a messed up situation, and reason and composure doesn't always get you through messed up situations. Sometimes what seems like a bad idea works out, and what seems like a good idea ends up failing. I'll agree with your other point, but again, that was a problem with editing, not writing or directing.
