Why the belief Digimon copied pokemon?

Alright,No this isn't a ***** thread. (Well,MAYBE at the people who are asses about it and claim with no proof.) But they came out about the same time,Pokemon in Games and Digimon in Keychain pets,But really the only thing they share is the monster angle,and that could mean godzeera was the original pokemon. I felt Digimon was for the more mature child while pokemon was for children whop wanted something funny with something cute. What are you angles on the Similaritys?

They don't actually catch them in Digimon though, do they? I always thought they had one from the start and that was forever.

OT: I think it's because it's a japanese anime about kids with fighting monster pets that end in "-mon". And they arrive in the States at about the same time.

Because people enjoy deciding what something is before even glancing at it, and anthropomorphic critters with 'Mon' at the end of their name was all they needed.
Even though I've never once see a pokemon get killed...

That's not even logic, what the two of them are famous for are being shows where teens go around catching weird monsters and evolve them. Even though there wasn't as much of the catching in Digimon as in Pokemon, the facts remain. Pokemon set a ground as a game, and later on an anime, about kids catching monsters. Digimon set a ground as a keychain pet.

Fair enough,But I mean the only ground I see is the monsters part,the evolution was a bit different,but still on a basis. Every anime has a transformation of some sort nowadays if its actiony,just called evolution there. As for the games,The base is sort of the same,it IS more about catching in some,but the pokemon games have the catching Genre set in stone,whil the Digimon Worlds changed contantly. 1 was a daycare raising sort of thing,2 a crawler with random battles like final fantasy games,3 was about collecting cards,and 4 was a battler. Data Squad was an Anime game. Similarities Exist,but the differences are more direct.

People did not however see that said kids did not catch the digimon but rather were bound to the digimon nor was evolution a strength based thing but rather a situational based thing.

In short, people saw massive similarities that without context its understandable they have no idea that they are quite different shows. Just ignore them.

In the first Digimon season the children are transported into the Digiworld through a portal. They land in a jungle were they meet their Digimon-Partners and go off to fight the Darkness in form of Devimon. Now could anybody tell me how this has anything to do with Pokemon, except for the monsters?

Lots of things copied or were inspired by Pokemon and it's success. It had succes in Games, Cartoons, Cards, and by then everything else; that's rather enticing for other companies. So a lot of people copied them, though what makes Digimon stand out is that is was actually good.

My opinion was that Digimon was a bit less creative in my eyes. Pokemon was a game series set in Kanto, where Pocket Monsters (Pokemon) roamed free like animals. Except humans had figured out a method of capturing and domesticating/training these creatures. As the creatures grew older and stronger their forms shifted in a process they called evolution. The Pokemon were cleverly and recognizable named mostly combining two or more relevant words. Like Charcoal and Salamander. The creatures also acted like wild animals and fought for their freedom, some even after you caught them. The anime kinda ruined that though by giving almost every wild animal sentience on par or superior to humans, but that was the anime.

Digimon is about 6 kids who are mysteriously transported into the Digital World (Digi-World) and meet up with Digital Monsters (Digimon) whom they befriend. In battle, Digimon could change form to become more powerful in a process the Digimon themselves called Digivolution. They Digivolved, which could only mean they digitally evolved. Then of course as they exert energy they de-digivolve and return to their former cuddly selves.My Digi-Spell Check hates me now. Not to mention all Digimon names ended in -mon. (It could have been more creatively named in the Japanese Version or it could have not, I have no bearing on how good the translations were.)

Personally I'm surprised they didn't call the trees "DigiTrees" or the antagonists "Digitagonists." The word Digi was thrown around so much it got a little silly and seemed to me like they didn't try as much on the characters and environments in Digimon then they did in Pokemon. Which has always led me to believe that since they were around during the same time that Digimon was nothing more then a quick series put together to board the Hype Train that was the Pokemon Series.

Well, all I know is that I found the Digimon TV series much more interesting than the Pokemon series. In the Pokemon series they just wandered around randomly and beat Team Rocket like clockwork. Digimon had a proper story, proper characters and there was actual danger and adversity.

Shit, now I want to watch the old Digimon series.

I just looked up these dates, and to me one year doesn't seem like long enough for someone to try and copy something completely. For a start I don't think Pokemon had hit it's full popularity in that first year.

Actually, according to the Wiki pages:

... the first Pokemon media, Pokemon Red and Green, were released initially on February 27, 1996; where as the Digimon virtual pet was released on June 26, 1997.

Digimon started out as a digital pet called "Digital Monster," similar in style and concept to the Tamagotchi.
On March 6, 1999, the franchise was given an anime as the first of the Digimon movies aired in theaters in Japan. Originally, the Digimon Adventure movie was supposed to be a short film, but after the storyboard was finished, a request for Digimon becoming a children's television show was made. On March 7, 1999, they began airing a television counterpart titled Digimon Adventure.

So really, Digimon started as a CopyCat of Tamagotchi, which was also made in 1996. Wether or not the Anime copied from the success of Pokemon can't be said.

Haha, it's actually funny. I mean the characters from the Pokemon Games. When I compair Pokemon to something I always use the games.

I will agree though, I recently watched a couple episodes of Digimon for nostalgia. And while the Characters felt a little cardboard they weren't nearly as bad as the hacked-up-mud characters from the Pokemon Anime.

Let it be known that I hate the Pokemon cartoon with a passion, I can only tolerate a few of the episodes. I hate it almost as much as I hate Sonic X.

Now that we have the clear difference between Digimon and Pokemon sorted, can we discuss how say... (Oh crap, I know something rips off Pokemon so blatantly, it, oh yeah) Yu-Gi-Oh: Capsule Monsters is a rip off of Pokemon. Seriously, it is! Look it up! Tell me to my face that it's not a clear page from Pokemon's book! It doesn't even have any card games, it's just launching monsters for battle!
