They are hated because they have some sort of immense hard-on for DRM, to the point where they had to get sued to stop installing what essentially amounted to a damn piece of spyware on your computer that would delete your files if you did something wrong. That, and as people have already said, they flog an IP until every last drop of blood is milked from its body, then they start to suck the marrow from its bones with spin-offs and expansion packs. They're like the Sonic Team turned into an entire company. Seriously, there's an entire division of the company devoted solely to the Sims.

As for the people arguing that they do make good games: Yes, they have made one or two good games recently. but really, it's more like they bought smaller developers that were making good games and slapped their label on top of it.

Plus, EA Sports is jsut ridiculous. I have Madden 01 for the PS2. I played Madden 09 for the PS3 recently. I didn't see any goddamn difference. 8 games, and all they do is update team rosters and add a feature or two every 3 games or so. Things they could do with patches just as easily. But then they couldn't charge you through the nose for it.

I'm sorry, but we seriously had this exact same thread not too long ago.

It's so annoying.

Answers were generally: DRM and shitty sports games.

Thank you and goodnight.
People like you are also annoying, so you're not contributing anything to this thread.

Actually he was, you aren't contributing. Just so I can escape these kind of claims, I'm going to explain why EA DRM is so bad.

So, I go to the shops and buy an EA PC game. I install it once but I later have to reformat my hard drive because I've got viruses again. This wouldn't have happened if they put their games on Mac. Anyway, back to DRM. So, this happens two more times. On the third time it says: 'YOU MUST BUY THIS GAME AGAIN BECAUSE YOU INSTALLED IT 3 TIMES'. That's DRM.

I never had a problem with them until I found out they had put an install limit on the PC version of Mass Effect. I had looked forward to purchasing Mass Effect for the PC for so long...but the DRM issues completely infuriated me. Then they started doing it to more and more games that I wanted...Dead Space, Spore, etc. The company sticking to their policies and defending their actions despite their public image spiraling ever downward just added fuel to the fire. I waited until the Steam DRM-free versions of Mass Effect and Dead Space were released to buy them. I've since forgiven EA, but will never forget it. I'll hate that company until the day I die.

You're getting extremely angry over a duplicate thread...

EA just cash in on everything.

I dislike them as a company, though there have been some good titles under their name. (Hours of fun playing SSX tricky :p).

People tend to get brainwashed by the "DRM IS BAD EA IS EVUL" attitude. Is it a coincidence that the whole starforce shitstorm only started when pirates couldn't crack it after a year? I understand why people don't like it, but look at the figures guys. About 50% of some games are pirated copies with some titles and you think a company is going to stop using DRM? Get real.

The only reason I don't like them is the "lets leave out content and sell it as an expansion later" attitude. Look at spore - for 10 years of development you have a game that lasts about 10 hours, if you look at the concept art it could've been amazing. Same with the sims etc.

Fair play to them though, they've made a lot of money.

Because EA is literally the spawn of Satan and they eat up good devs while spitting out their bones. They also overload their games with more DRM then they do Content.

Their use on invasive DRM technologies (I'm not aginast ALL drm, just the stuff that kills your computer if you try to make a home movie using your DVD burner after installing the game, or needs the actual reciept each time you start).

also

anygame that follows the format

[Title] [Year]
is just a rip off and is the result of EA's milking department.

That said they still have some gems in the depressing cesspit filled with sports titles, such as dead space (although having seen extraction, I'm not too sure how long this IP will hold up).

one last fator for all the hate is that they are a HUGE corporation, and thus are faceless, evil and dasterdly in eyes of the masses.

I've never actually known, I don't tend to see patterns in game companies. Some would probably say I'm naive but I know it's just because I'm not that analytical. Not in that sense, anyway...

I think the problem is not with them being shitty, but with them being the exact same thing year after year. Really, gaming sites get so excited about the new Madden NFL, but it's the exact same game with updated rosters. Not to mention you can update your rosters manually by creating players in previous NFL games.

because the way they make games is either by copying a game they have made (*cough cough* Fifa), or a game someone else has (*cough cough* Dead Space).

Because they suck the life out of promising development teams.
They got a few resistant ones, but mostly EA games turn into zombies. And not the good kind!
There's a good kind?

Anyway, I hate EA, and will always hate EA, for one simple reason

Interestingly, I class that as a reason not to hate them...

The Fifa/Madden/Nascar/Donkey Racer 1923/1965/2007/2030 cut-and-paste approach is pretty annoying, but people would complain if they offered premium update patches every year too, so there's no winning situation.

Yes C&C sucks now, but it was good when everyone was what, 12-15? Play something else.

For me, the big reason to hate them is that if you want to play any of their games, you have to see their logo spinning/materialising/being beamed from space at least four times unskippably just to get to the title screen, at which point you're usually met by obnoxious lad's tunes, like Hard-Fi, or emo dross (for you burnout fans).

EA, it's in the game, on the game, behind the game, twice before the start of the game, and on every billboard in the game. That's why they should be hated.

B/c they take good game series and turn them it to crap. Thats we i dont like them. Also, they convinced people they should pay 60 bucks every year for 1 or 2 innovations and updated rosters.
