Why the hate on deviantart?

1)Rule 34, obviously
2)The good being overrun by the bad
3)Said bad behaving like total jerks, ranting on about how cool they are and how others (better ones) suck


FAST EDIT: Let's save some face here: I way have come of a bit strong, but don't get me wrong, it's like this with any kind of site promoting the posting of homebrew arts and crafts. There's some diamonds on DeviantArt too, but as with all diamonds, you have to dig deep to get to them...

Like most outlets for creativity, it's about 90% trash and 10% gold. You can find some truly incredible stuff there, but to find it, you have to wade through crappy MSPaint Sonic recolors, disturbingly erotic Harry Potter fan-art and miles and miles of drama generated by overemotional teenage "artistes" who can't grasp the concept that their Kingdom Hearts ripoff character is not, in fact, a unique, flawless snowflake. This is reason enough for most people to hate on DeviantArt, and honestly, I can't blame them.

People have a love/hate relationship with it, mainly because of the fact that a lot of artists depictions of certain things tarnish thier original idea of the character in general. Eg- I searched for some Discworld characters, and yes, by god they are perverts.

I few people I know and respect for their artistic talents use deviantart to an extent that I've seen some of their work. That's not to say that I am an art aficionado, but I can find a work of visual art to be beautiful.

If people want to put up garbage, so be it. But there are plenty of honest people there too. As such that the whole site doesn't deserve to be hated on.

I've been on deviantart for 3 years and I rather like it (...well, obviously, since I've been on there for 3 years...yeah.)
I don't see very much hate about deviantart, but while I'm actually on there, there is occasionally the massive blow ups of everyone writing wicked comments to 'art thieves' or people who just post up pictures of themselves in their underwear or whatever.

Didn't actually know that there was hate going on about the website...now I'm all worried. /flails.

I'm kinda opposed to it on principle because even objective observations and constructive criticism are met with outright hostility and that ever present bit of rationalized denial "its supposed to look that way, its my style."

Theres some great stuff on there, but the amount of randomly distributed delusional egotism kinda taints everything.

I've found some of my favourite pictures on deviantart. That there are bad pictures there too is actually utterly irrelevant to me. It's like hating google because there are some rubbish pages linked to along with the page you want.

The reason I personally dislike Deviantart is because at least 90% of it's users are 15 year olds with a very liberal interpretation of the word "art."

Classic case of "I don't want to wade through the legions of furries and fanfic writers."

I knew there was a certain dislike for DeviantArt, but never a "hate" for it. As for myself, I have a small account where I've just started submitting my own pieces of work. The fact that the site is overrun with fan-made furry characters and generally angsty preteens really tarnishes the aspect that there is some good artwork to be found.

For example, I wanted some decent images of Renamon. That was the worst mistake to ever make, searching "Renamon" on DeviantArt. While it is fact that I enjoy some furry artwork, perverted styles of doing so really turn me off.

To put it quite simply, it's a decent site where the bad outweigh the good. If you are willing to ignore the bad, then there is a fair amount of great artwork to be found there.

PS - Next time, when you make a thread, please don't use the phrase "Why the hate...."

We are quite tired of it.

I just use it for the Customization section, but it's not like I hate the rest of it. There's a lot of cool art to be found.

I personally wouldn't have a problem with the site if the admins there weren't such snobs. Most of them anyway. They don't give a crap about anyone unless they're important or pay their subscription.

Try searching 'Samus Aran' on DeviantArt. Go on, I dare you[footnote]They're bigger than her head![/footnote].

That said, though it's not all bad. I don't really spend much time anywhere near it so I can't judge.
