And now, for irony's sake, I'm waiting for the add-on that has you playing a snarky doctor operating on soldiers in Korea.

(Stop me if you get the joke.)

If a game actually got snarky doctor in Korea, a.k.a Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce...well...I'd support it :p

OT: I say the same thing to myself, "why vietnam?" As you said, US didn't exactly come out of it with a free pass.

I didn't like the part where the game wanted to kill the rabbit just to see if that female nurse was pregnant.

Vietnam, being the war that the US (officially) lost has been mythologised to hell and back.

Same as WW2, that tiresome reality thing has been pushed aside in popular consciousness, and replaced with something more interesting.

Yeah, basically it has an awesome(-ish) culture surrounding it. It's famed as the most major conflict America has officially lost and has cool music. What more do you need?

Because we've done to death WWII, the last war we were definitely the good guys in.

On the other hand, I'd like to see a Korean War game. It had my favorite gun in it, the M-14, as a main battle rifle as opposed to a specialized sniper/marksman weapon.

On Nam though. There seems to be a different kind of feeling to Vietnam based games. In WWII games, there's always a sense that you're fighting for a great cause. No matter how harsh and gritty they try to make war seem, when it's WWII, you always have a sense that what you're doing is right because you know the basic history. With Vietnam, there's so much more ambiguity about your cause and if you're right or wrong, if it's done right.

I really hope the op is being ironic with this
The men of war series has spent it's entire life in WW2, I find it a refreshing change to have a Vietnam Rts [is there even another one?]
Anyway, it beats the hell out of the Modern War uprising we are seeing, I hope they move back to WW1 after this though.

If you look back a few years (maybe months), everyone was complaining that there were no Vietnam games, and everyone was saying that because America was the bad guys in that it wouldn't get made. I constantly read comments of people complaining about WWII and saying do Vietnam instead.

Obviously developers saw there was a want for it and have started making Vietnam games, so if you're going to complain you should add what war you'd prefer.

(I'd like a war between land and sea creatures, both sides prey and predator coming together to gain control of land (or sea) they can't naturally inhabit until everyone involved realises it's best suited to the other faction and world peace ensues over the futileness of it all.)

Maybe they picked vietnam because of its controversy? then again that level of complexity from the DLC money grabbing market would probably be entirly coincidental. I guess its a well documented war if nothing else there would be an abundance of source matieral to use.

The only Vietnam add-on that I know of for any war game is the one for Battlefield Bad Company 2. After playing that, I refuse to go back to regular BC2. In my opinion, this version of BC2 requires more skill. There aren't any UAVs or motion mines (or any other cheap technology, for that matter), and the helicopters are way easier to shoot down, so you have to be very good at flying and shooting if you're planning on living for a decent amount of time in those deathtraps.
