Why Voice Acting Sucks in Games

Voice acting in Oblivion was totally creepy, but in Fallout 3, it was great.
It's really nice to have good voice acting, especially when it's battle chatter, the kind of generic stuff you would hear in-game while simply playing. In war games, you don't want to hear all of your buddies constantly spouting poorly-given lines in your ears! When you're trying to get immersed in a game, bad voice acting can really mess it up.

I don't think it's too bad in GTAIV, anyone agree?
However it's generally worse in low budget and movie games but it can also ruin otherwise good games.
Spiderman 2 for example

my take on voice acting complaints are, "could you honestly do any better" now in some cases im sure a drunken guy on the streets could, but as it says they have proffessionals, and besides, mostly voice acting is the least of my worries, as gameplay is a much larger element, though voice acting can be a nnoying in certain games

Team fortress two,I am almost certain will stay mny favourite voiced game ever.

So much personality with not but a drop of story line.

Psychonauts, Grim Fandango... Now that I think of it, all games Tim Schafer is involved with have great voiceacting. Might be becasue they have such a high focus on story and immersion, it makes the games shine though.

Also, TF2 has some great voice acting as well.

Yeah, voice acting can suck in video games.
I think Rockstar took it serious when they made San Andreas tho... Man, half of hollywood was there.

I've never had any dislike of voice acting in a game, ever. If the voice sounds weird, I attribute that to the character, not the voice actor. I can immerse myself in anything so I'm never thinking about quality of voice acting. However good voice acting can certainly make a game more fun, Fallout 3 and Mirrors Edge for example.

I like the voice acting in Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Ace Combat 5 (duh on my part, of course I would), and I think the best I have seen was either GTAIV or Mass Effect IMO.
