Why would anyone buy this?

I was in Waterstones recently and a book caught my eye - the webcomic Cyanide and Happiness serialised in print. Now, I know this has been done with Perry Bible Fellowship and aplenty with Penny Arcade and that, but honestly, who would buy this (for an astounding price of £12.99), when it's free on the net?

Having a flip through i'd seen about three quarters of the material on the net already and they weren't the best. Personally I've gone off C&H because their comics of late have, whilst trying to be a mix of tastless but funny, just come off as tasteless and stupid. IMO.

I think its got like 17 never before seen comics in it, but that doesn't really give me enough motivation to buy the damn thing. If I were to get it it would be as a gift.

Some people like to collect books I guess and I do know a few people that like a hard copy of a book over the internet version. Even if the internet is free

I would buy it because i can still look at it even when i don't have internet. I'm not that interested in it but i would buy the xkcd one, its got a couple of extra sketches and its well laid out

I look forward to the day when I can say that is a lie.
Well, at the 20th of July it's opposite day, so then you can say that it's a lie

You're being too pessimistic.

Oh look, a shiny thing! I must have it!

Because people who don't use the internet as much, an/or don't know the webcomic would probably buy it. Same with fans who want to support the artist by giving him money this way.

I'd imagine that is what most people do while shopping:

Wait, I just realized something!

I said it was 20th of July because that was when the Wolverine Origins Unskippable episode came out when they made a joke about it being opposite day.

But after googeling opposite day, it turns out that it is every 24th January.

So opposite day is actually on Sunday!

I actually saw that in the bookstore the other day, picked it up and skimmed through it but that's about it. I looked at the price and was amazed. I mean, I guess it would be cool to have, but I don't want to pay for something like that. I might get the Perry Bible Fellowship one or Pictures for Sad Children, though... see C&H used to be very funny to me, but now they're just relying on puns and trying to shock people.

So if you didn't want to read my obscure and disjointed paragraph, I wouldn't buy it because it's not funny anymore and it's expensive, but I might buy one if it was a webcomic that I enjoyed more.

I bought the penny arcade books personally. I've read that site nearly since it launched and both liked supporting it and enjoyed the side notes that talked about making the strips.

Stupid people are stupid.

That and sometimes people who like it want a tangible copy to bring with them.

1.They like to reward people who entertain them and fund any future projects by those entertainers. Radical concept, I know.
2. They don't need electricity to read it.
3. The same reason why people buy TV on DVD. They get everything gathered together for their convenience and maybe they get a few bonus features, as well.

After some musing i suppose I'd be happy for them if their work had any artistic merit such as aforementioned XKCD, but its not, so I'm not.

Yhea, i would personally buy the Ctrl+Alt+Del MMO Hell poster if not for the shipment cost.
