I don't really know. I guess after watching a lot of ZP, I decided to see what else the escapist had to offer video-wise. I then saw a few interesting looking topics in the forums, and then, finally, an interesting topic to which I thought I could offer an interesting reply! So I created an account and tried to post in it, only to find that I could no longer a) find the thread again, or b) remember what I was going to write in it. So I ended up posting in a thread about my dog's name in Dragon Age. Hell of a first post.

So I guess, in retrospect, I do know why I joined. I just remembered it in the course of writing this.

Well started by watching ZP but I looked around the forums and people seemed friendly enough, so I joined

I lurked for a few months in aught-nine before a video popped up before ZP telling me to vote for the Escapist at the Webbys. I did. When the Escapist won I celebrated but I noticed that every member got a badge. I joined so that I too could get the badge but I did not. I've been a regular here since.

Do you still lie awake at nights, weeping for that lost badge? Wondering how life might've turned out if you had gotten it? How the pain of a hundred badge-shaped voids has haunted your every deed, making you fear for the day that you will eventually cave under the constant pressure of your dessicated, meaningless and above all, badgeless, existence?

a friend introduced me to zero punctuation.
and after i watched all of that i tried unskippable and so on until i found the forums.

and i am now nearing 4000 posts.

...actually yes. I'm a badge hunter and the lack of a Webby badge PISSES ME OFF! I don't even like the badge but I WANT IT.

Originally I would just watch the videos here, then go do something else. One day I noticed these things called "forums". I was intrigued. I began reading some then decide: "Why not make an account so that I can post in these "forums". So I did. And here I am. So now we know. And now we sit. Because we know.

Well I originally came here for Zero Punctuation and often "Lurked" the forums. The thing which made me get an account was Genre wars, I played it, it turned out to be crap so I started posting on the forums. Now look at me, millions of adoring fans that totally know who I am, an excellent reputation amongst all (I can dream can't I?).

I'm much less interested in this place than I used to be, mostly for the fact after so long threads are all just repeats and the people on here can get stale after a while, even group chat sucks now. So nothing, nothing at all.

Well it was ZP that brought me here in the first place, then i started to watch more things like MovieBob and D&A. then i got to the threads. Just felt like talking and posting so i made an account

Yes the all empowering (according to The Merovingian from the Matrix) Why! Cause and effect! I wanted to ask questions during the Unskippable Let's Play of Legaia 2, so I made my account. Now I'm addicted! Quizzes, articles, the forums, games, badges! I'm loving it all. Even though I had been a long time viewer of Zero P, Unskippable, Game Dogs, and Movie Bob. It was that one thing that finally made me give in and succumb fully to The Escapist.

So tell me your stories! What made you finally give in and make a full escapist account? What are you addicted to here the most? Old and new alike (if you oldies can even remember anymore )

(And yes, I searched, a few threads about how long it took people to join, but I couldn't find anything specific about the "why" so I hope this thread is cool!)

The shows change because they peak and drop in quality as they go along, what made me a member was that I couldn't keep my mouth shut after lurking about for roughly a year. Finally I saw a thread that I couldn't resist posting in, and I don't even remember what that is.

In short, the community is why I'm here. Lack of trolls and no spam make Kuro a ******* ****.
