Hey I'm not entirely sure whether this is the right place to put this *Looks around warily* but here goes.

I'm having a strange problem with Mass Effect 2 after playing for a long time perfectly the screen goes all crazy and then the computer locks up (can't get to windows etc) there's no blue screen.

At first I thought it was a graphics card issue so I cleaned out my pc and checked everything there. I even increased the fan speed a bit to see if it was a heat problem. No luck there.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics card drivers using a driver cleaner and that hasn't worked either.

It's just this game I'm having problems with and similar games with the same graphics level or higher work fine, dead space 2, crysis 2 etc (man this was a year for sequels huh) I'm pretty much stumped as to what it is. Could it be a faulty cd?

If anyone shows an interest I'll post my computer stats, but I figured this might be a common bug or somthing...can't find anything on google though :< Anyone give me a hand?

How much RAM do you have?

It seems like many current games have horrible memory leaks. Fallout 3/New Vegas crashed frequently on me until I bumped my RAM up to 4 gigs, and then all the problems magically disappeared.

Does the game freeze up at a certain time mark (Always 2 hours in, etc)? Does an in game action trigger it? Or is it random?

It seems to be random when it bugs out which is why I initially thought it was heat and no I haven't tried reinstalling I probably should thanks.

I have 8gigs of RAM so I don't think it's that :/

A full spec list would be nice, but a small tip sometimes overlooked is audio drivers, have you tried updating them? Sometimes outdated audio drivers dont work well with newer games and can cause graphical errors.

Other than that are there no errors at all? From a little reading you should be able to alt+tab out when this problem happens and it should tell you the error.

Try using a different graphics card and see if the problem persists. I know you already tried some graphics related fixes, but I had a similar problem which eventually turned out to be a weirdly specific problem with the card itself.
Having some specs would help though.

Sounds like the Mulitcolored screen of death. (you can google it..lol) I've had it... twice with my current rig. It was under warrenty, so i have to fixed both times, but basically it's a sign you videocard may be dieing. For me, it always seemed to start by just effecting one game, then eventually as things got worse, it'd spring up in other games, then eventually windows itself when idle. It's progressive. And it's related to overheating IIRC. I'd expeariment with a different video card if you happne to have one.

If that is the problem, your card is toast. Hope you have a warrenty.
