Hey,

I just recently bought myself a used Wii U off of eBay - I've been wanting one for a while, for various things here and there, but was looking for some further recommendations of games, be they downloadable store things, or otherwise?

The console itself is coming with Wind Waker HD, Smash 4, NintendoLand, ZombiU and Sonic All Stars Racing, and I'm looking to pick up Hyrule Warriors, Mario 3D Land and Earthbound, as well as Zelda U and Xenoblade in the future when available.

I was wondering if anybody else had any ideas, or recommendations for other games that people could recommend? In terms of genres, I'm usually a fan of platformers, adventures, rpgs, the usual Nintendo shtick, really.

Any inputs are appreciated.

Pikman 3 has been pretty fantastic. Nintendos stand by games are still Mario Kart racing and Smash Brothers, which are good.

I thinks Wonderful 101 is a hoot.
And their pro-controller has a 50 hour charge. Should be good for Call of Duty Ghosts. I'm playing with this:

http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Commander-Wii-U-Nintendo/dp/B00ANHBJBY/ref=sr_1_9?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1428875097&sr=1-9&keywords=wii+u+controller

Avoid the 007 game. Sucks.

Enjoy the difference. Wii U offers a new experience. I love my PS4, but it is a polished PS3. Wii U: Use it right and it is a new experience.

You can never go wrong with Warioware or the latest Mario Party. They're great and simple games, ready to go, whenever you have friends over and one of them doesn't want to play smash (like me).

Bayonetta 2 and Shantae and the Pirates Curse have been the two games I have enjoyed the most by far.

Smash is ok and I mean to play Super Mario World 3D and the wonderful 101 but really I am waiting for Xenoblade X and the new Fatal Frame (to come out here).

I'd recommend Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. It's by far the best platformer on the Wii U and has some of the best level design of the past few years. It's also probably my favorite game soundtrack in recent memory.

Other than that I'd recommend checking out a lot of the nintendo classics that have been released on the e-store in the past few months. They've added some really great games that you can't really get elsewhere.

I've already been beaten to the punch, but:
Bayonetta 2 - insanely awesome hack and slash - Get the physical copy with Bayo 1.
Wonderful 101
Pikmin 3
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse - I got the 3DS version, though. Probably the best game on the eshop.
Tropical Freeze
Lego City Undercover - I've yet to try it out myself, but I've heard nothing but praise about it.

Depends on if you have played earlier these on the PS3 or Xbox360, but good ("older gen titles") titles are DeusEx, Splinter Cell, Batman and Darksiders. Then there's the Rayman Legends game which also is multiplatform. As for Nintendo titles, there are Wonderful101, Bayonetta, Pikmin3 and MarioKart. I guess there are more games but these are the ones I remember having atm.

Then you should also check out the Nintendo Eshop as there are loads of old titles from Snes/NES and Gameboy era games, like GoldenSun, FireEmblem, old Zelda titles. The Eshop is also full of indie titles like Trine2, Shante and ShovelKnight. So the Eshop is a must to look into!

And of course if you haven't had a Wii, you should look into Wii titles and take the best of those also :p

How about Bayonetta 2 and Mario Kart 8? I am sure you will have lots of fun with these titles.

Pikmin 3 is a fantastic game, and very unique. I would recommend it for sure. Possibly the most beautiful game I have ever played.

Bayonetta 2 is probably the best Platinum game yet, and platinum is a developer known for the fantastic quality of their games. Comes free with Bayonetta the first, so it is also a fantastic return on value. Easily the best buy for the system to date.

Wonderful 101 is another Platinum game on the Wii U. It is very different from Bayonetta, but very good. It is a lot harder to wrap your head around though, I would recommend watching some of the chip cheezum lets play to help you with that.

DKC: Tropical Freeze is the best 2d platformer on the system

You may want to buy the better battery for the game pad. It lasts about 3-4 hours with the default battery. It has never been a problem for me, but if you marathon game the extra battery life is great.

Avoid:

Buying non refurbished wii motes. Nintendo refurbished products are practically good as new and about half the price.

New Super Mario Bros Wii U: A good game in its own right, but there are just better 2d platformers on the system.

Games I have for my Wii U:

On Disc:
New Super Mario Bros U + Super Luigi U - One of the best of the "New" series of SMB, and Luigi U is a hard remixed short timer version of NSMBU. Has 4 player co-op too, but the bumping and pushing kills the fun when the difficulty increases.
Super Mario 3D World - Great 3D Mario platforming, starting easy and eventually escalates to insanity. Now with 4 player co-op, while manages to avoid the bumping and pushing problems of 2D.
Lego Batman 2 - Its Lego and Batman.
Mario Kart 8 - This game has been in my Wii U more than any other, for both single and multiplayer. 16 new tracks, 16 retro tracks, a reasonable but slightly lacking character selection, a competent online mode for 1-2 local players, reasonably priced DLC including 8 new full-sized tracks per pack (and 4 vehicles and 3 characters). Plays well and looks awesome doing it.
Super Smash Bros. - No overarching story mode, but lots to do in both single and multiplayer. Online is generally great, although some matches lag, but rarely unplayable. Some matches, both duels and 4 player, play as if local though.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - best 2D platformer on the Wii U, and plays, sounds and controls awesome. Challenge levels become incredibly difficult.
Wii Fit U - Way more exercises and tracking with Wii Fit Meter
Nintendo Land - Great collection of mini-games both single and multiplayer utilizing the gamepad.
ZombiU - Awesome atmosphere, generally good game, neat online aspect. Difficult, especially in the beginning.
Ninja Gaiden 3 - Got through the first boss, but not digging the Ninja in Modern times with hard as nails timing that much. Maybe I'm too old heh.

Downloadable Titles:
Pikmin 3 - got with the MK8 promotion, great RTS for consoles, but very calm most of the time and works great with stylus controls
Shovel Knight - Absolutely awesome NES inspired retro platformer. Like Mega Man mixed with Castlevania and Dark Souls.

That's not counting all of the Wii titles, VC NES and SNES and N64 titles I have split between Wii and Wii U. Currently playing Zelda: Skyward Sword through the Wii mode and plays and looks great!
