Wii U's Voice Chat Requires Third-Party Peripheral

Well, on one hand, I get the third party peripheral thing. I mean, the PS3 and 360 still rely on headsets even with the Kinect and the...Move *Shudders*. And I also understand that the build in mic doesn't really work the way you think it does (The Wii controller is similar, what with that dumb mini speaker that does random, unnecessary sounds while you play).

On the other hand...you'll literally need two controllers if you wanna chat online! Well, it depends on the controller you're using but still! Didn't someone at Nintendo said at some point "Wait! This isn't convenient!"?
What bothers me is Nintendo's need to be gimmicky AND trying to be hip and cool. It's not working. It COULD work, but it's not working right now. It's as if I have a pickup truck and I see a sports car with a spoiler and graphics and stuff like that so I decide to add a spoiler to my truck cause that other car had it and did wonders for it and I want my truck to do the same. And then I see a police car with a siren and it looks pretty so I add a siren to my car-- well, you get the idea. Nintendo wants to add everything to the WiiU. That's fine but you gotta do it smart.

I'll admit I won't get a WiiU. I already played it and I have to say it was fun, especially Rayman. But it's not for me. But hey, I'm not vindictive. I want Nintendo to succeed. But sometimes I wonder...

1. Um, okay? I don't know what that has to do with anything. The Gamecube managed to beat a technologically inferior system whose manufacturer pretty much issued a press release saying they wouldn't support it anymore. They quit.

2. I have no need to pick up Pikmin 3 on any system because I already own Pikmin 1 and 2. I got bored of Pikmin 2 before I could finish it. Why get another game in the series if it's going to basically the same as the first two and have no online mode? Yes, I am getting benefits to buying games on other systems. I don't buy anything for 360 anymore because PS3 has free online. I'm not necessarily using the online modes, but the PS3 my preferred system now. When two versions of the same game are 60 bucks and one does things the other can't, I'm opting for that version, regardless of using those features. I at least give online a try.

3. Always great to hear from Shin'en, creators of such monumentally relevant titles as Garfield's Nightmare and Fun! Fun! Minigolf TOUCH!

1: Your ignoring the fact that the same "Good Luck working with the Internet" thing, which is what you claim the WiiU to do, is the same exact thing the PS2 did! The PS2 was a best selling system of all time! I was pointing out that internet accessibility =/= Success. If that were the case, then the PS3 should be trumping the XBox 360, yet it clearly isn't.

2: So fine, you don't care for Pikmin. Why would you care what it has then? And if you were bored with Pikmin 2, why bother caring at all for Pikmin 3? That'd be like me caring about the New Pokemon games coming out (I ran out of interest in the series before Black and White). Also, when two versions of the same game are 60 bucks and one does things the others can't, then why are you not supporting the WiiU? The WiiU can run games in 1080p and 60FPS, it will have a strong relation with Indie Titles, it can run Graphic Engines neither the Xbox nor the PS3 can, it will have free internet connection, and is Nintendo's true attempt at being Hardcore. Why squander that?

3: Oh sure, Shin'en is the only company that has ever made terrible games ever. Are the claims Ubisoft made invalid because of Rayman for the N64? How about Gearbox? Are they invalidated? [http://mynintendonews.com/2012/05/25/wii-u-is-a-powerful-powerful-machine/] Activision? [http://n4g.com/news/1080899/activisions-hirshberg-praises-unprecedented-levels-of-realism-on-wii-u] Freakin' Microsoft? [http://www.zeldainformer.com/news/comments/microsoft-praises-wii-u-disappointed-at-lack-of-new-zelda-or-metroid] The point is, developers are interested in this system, it does have the worthwhile, and it's something neither you nor me should ignore.

Meh, voice chat is shit in games anyway. It should always be optional and not necessarily a part of the game... on the other hand it should always be an option. Can't complain about the limited games that will use it, that is exactly how the PS3 was. Consoles overall just don't get it, they could easily produce software that is separate from the games themselves and then it's completely optional. You also should be able to restrict whether chatter you hear is from friends or not. But the consoles are so half assed with everything they have, it borders on the insane. "We have voicechat, but only on select games!" Really, who cares. They all need to look at better versions of what they do and learn a thing or two. As someone who is primarily a PC gamer, I have so many good options for voicechat. For love of god, I can get Vent on my Android phone. This game doesn't support it, fine, onto Axon or Vent I go.

I'll fess up. I was behind the WiiU 100%. I had high hopes for it. And of course I can't pass final judgements on it till I use it. But every piece of news about this thing just makes me feel just a little bit stupid. So, I guess I should stop being surprised by news like this.
