Nintendo's Wii Vitality Sensor device will recognise breathing patterns, Siliconera reports.

According to a patent application for the hardware, it will measure the user's "relax fluid" by monitoring the heart's cardiac cycle via 100 pulses.

The application also outlined a stretch game in which players tilt the Wii remote up and down to control an on-screen avatar, and attempt to adjust their breathing to match its movement. Users' levels of relax fluid is measure before and after.

Nintendo has hinted that the device could be supported in The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword. THQ is also planning to incorporate its use in Red Steel 3.

Nintendo is yet to officially unveil the Vitality Sensor and its release date is yet to be announced.

If game developers can work the vitality sensor into Survival Horror games so that it can register your heart beat and scare you at the proper times, then this will be a day one buy for me.
