So I'm taking a bit of a plunge. I'm selling off my old PS2, and upgrading to a new system. PS3 and XBOX360 hold no interest for me, so it more or less comes down to either a DS or a Wii.

My question to you is: which one should I buy? Nintendo DS, or Nintendo Wii?

I realise that it's beyond an apples and oranges comparison, but debate which system has better games, controls, value etc.

Don't make versus threads.

And idk the DS has a much wider library of games while the Wii will surely dissapoint you so get the DS.

DS has better games, quality wise, the Wii has the worst spread of rated games (too much crap, not enough gems) but the Wii is the more versatile of the 2 consoles. I'd say start with the DS then next time get a Wii.

I prefer the DS to the Wii. Probaly because it's less expensive and in my opinion the games have more variety so there will probaly something for everyone.

I'd go Wii. It's best games are better than those of the DS. Just make sure to look up a game before you buy it, because there is tons of garbage out there. But that doesn't make any of the great games any less great.

Make sure what you're buying is good quality for either choice. For instance, there were 362 games released on the Wii during 2009.

I have a DS. I'm kind of lukewarm on it (good games for it are few and far between), but if I had to choose I'd certainly keep it rather than trade it for a Wii, so there you go.

Personally, I'd go for the DS, for portability. If you don't care about playing your GBA games, get a DSi.

I do enjoy the Wii, though, for the virtual console, and all the party games (but there, I prefer to play with people in the room, as opposed to random people online). In fact, as someone that owns all three consoles, the Wii is the only one I still enjoy playing.

The DS is my favorite handheld ever, possibly one of my smartest buys in the last few years. It has decent graphics, a lot of fun games, backwards compatibility with the GBA, and is durable as fuck.

The Wii is pretty cool because of its virtual console, and since it has backwards compatibility with the Gamecube. There are very few Wii games that are actually good, but all that backwards compatibility can provide a near-infinite amount of fun, as long as you have the money to buy some Gamecube controllers. Also: Super Smash Bros. All three of them can play on THE SAME CONSOLE. If that is not reason to get a Wii, I don't know what is.

Do you have an interest in Gamecube titles? Get a Wii: the only backwards-compatible system this generation.
Do you find yourself playing games less often? Pick up a DS: version doesn't matter.

Both are fantastic systems, with the Wii having a kickass 2010 coming up. You've also got quite the backlog for either system, so it really is a bit of a coin-flip. I'd suggest the DS overall due to price.

I would get a DS if you can use it on Bus rides or at school whatever.

A Wii if you plan on only using it at home.

I agree with this statement...

I'll admit I was suckered by the Wiis' innovation and success back when it first came out, and thought it would have been the console that would take gaming to a new level...

BUT!...

These days when I look at the system that's currently collecting dust on the shelf over there... -->

I cannot help but cry on the inside that I could have saved that $250 or whatever it was dollars for ps3 games..

Of course though the ps3 isn't something you're interested in, and I respect that. So I'll say, go with a DS. I usually laugh at the thought of hand held games, but it seems that's where Nintendos' real games are being directed.

Yes I realize that the Wii has a couple of good titles, though they are really hard to find, and I honestly only find myself making a game purchase for the Wii atleast once a year.

This may sound like a bashing, but it really isn't.. I'm being truly honest in how bad I feel now that I realized I made an oops.. So please take this as just a warning. I know there are people out there that like the Wii, and I'm not one to judge them for doing so. It was just a bad decision in my eyes..

What you should do though, is research the library of games for each system, to see which system would entertain you the most by their collections, and upcoming titles. That way you can spend your money accordingly.

Best of luck to your future purchase!

Hehe, "school". As a teacher, I might get in trouble if I played FF Tactics A2 while my class sat there expecting me to teach them!

Well, so far votes seem to stack in favour of the DS, but I hadn't considered the virtual console aspect of the Wii... Tough choice.

handheld or weight loss? choose one. I'd prefer the Wii only because of my deep dislike of the DS. The Wii has a few more games available and if you want a handheld console, get a PSP.

Also, don't make "vs" threads. No problem right now since you haven't been doing this a lot.

For the benefit of the Forum Gods and the users who have called me out on it, my mistake. I didn't realise 'vs threads' were frowned upon, so it's a badly-chosen title.

It's not designed to incite a handheld-vs-not flame war ^_^
