I was only 6 when the game came out and in lieu of Fallout 3 coming out, i really want to experience the rest of the series.

So anyways, Is the game capable of running on XP?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. I actually have it installed on my computer right now. Don't know about Vista, but XP is fine.

Fallout 2 runs on Vista mate. You should have no problem. if you get any errors, google "Fallout 2 XP fix".

Cheers and unhappy Role playing!

Cool thanks. Is it easier to look online for the game? Because i doubt any stores will have it.

On that note, how will it be installed? Does it need a CD key?

Does not need a CD key; it does check for the CD being in the drive when you play, but I'm sure there are ways around that if you don't own the disk itself.

Since it's not distributed, it might be abandonware, i don't know, if it is, just download a ROM if it and use Daemontool to run it, works fine for me.

Works fine for me on XP.

Oh, and you might want to check out Killap's patch. It fixes a great many things that even the folks at Interplay never got around to fixing. He's also working on a nifty content pack.

cd projkts new digital distribution service thats to go live in a few months has a lot of old games that are gauntareed to run on xp and vista, both fallout games are among them. id recommend buying them off that service (if its a good service and not a total piece of crap that is) because both fallout games are definitly worth whatever they will cost. until then though, your best bet of finding the fallout games is to look in some illegal places.

Theres one probelm. Fallout 3 will be NOTHING like Fallout 1 & 2 so it pointless to experience completly diffrent games. If you want to prepare for Fallouot 3, then play Oblivion (and maybe add mod which gives some guns).
It just like preparing for Crysis and play Command & Conquer.

Fallout is popular game so i think its easy to find it on Ebay or something.

One thing you should be aware of is that on modern computers it has a bug related to the high processor clock speeds. Going into your bios and dropping the CPU multiplier fixes them. They start to crop up past around 1ghz. One makes the fade in/out when going to/from the main menu go WAY too fast. The other basically disables random encounters when traveling on the world map. Don't know if any of the patches fix this.

Since Pirating games is illegal, I can't give you a link to the torrent. But you MIGHT be able to find a good torrent by going to a site that MIGHT be called thepiratebay.org and searching for fallout 2.

Maybe.

Just a guess.

I'm aware that 3 will be quite different, and have been enjoying oblivion for a good while now.

In reading the topic it sounds like it's a bit more trouble than it's worth...I'll have to think about it.

thanks for all the input though/

Sorry for scaring you. Like Rak said, its really no big thing and you'll be missing out on the best RPGs ever made if you don't.

Just go over to NMA and they'll help you out. Just don't mention you liked Oblivion. ;)

i think the the thing i was "scared" about was the whole "lowering CPU" and what not to play it. I'm not the most knowledgeable in terms of computers , and it seems intimidating.

Killap's patches fix most of those bugs, including the "fast CPU" problems.

Getting the game isn't too hard. Ordered mine online for about 20 bucks.

Hmm, I've seen a few copies around with Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics, however, this is by one of those re-realease companies like Xplosiv or MAD, so, I'm not sure it technically counts as abandonware just yet. Either way, said collection is rather cheap as it stands. I think sites like Play.com and GAME stock it too.
