Survival Mode wasn't in MW2.
Have you read fourzerotwo's twitter at all?
It sounds not exactly like MW2.
That doesn't mean MW3 will be better, MW2 had co-op spec ops and it still sucked total balls, adding new features does not improve a game, after 5 years activision should be doing stuff like creating a new engine which will allow for more mechanics and new gameplay instead of selling the same game with a new name or number and splash of new paint

No, MW3 won't be COD4. However, I think it may be a good game.
HOWEVER, I think survival mode is a rip-off of Halo's firefight, which was also a rip-off of Gears of War's Horde mode. Then again, COD fanboys play nothing but COD, so it will seem new to them. Then again, it also looks like Infinity Ward's version of Zombies.

guarantee PC gamers will stay with cod4 until some kind of halo or some other random game for pc becomes the most balanced game ever.

On the other hand the trailers did look pretty cool, (except for the fact that that annoying red jelly all over the screen was on the entire trailer) that being said I will wait to see if a PC elitist says it is the second coming of Jesus before I buy ANY COD. I've already spent 120 on shitty COD games that could have got me a lot of doughnuts, cos I'm Fatty McFattAss at with my anorexia & all.

Yes, it will be just like another CoD4.
Just like World at War, MW2 and Black Ops were just like CoD4.
You sir, are made of win. But World at War was the best out of the new era of CoD's in my opinion.

But still, it's adding a few things, but not enough to make it worthy of being my Christmas main game.

Which does beg the question, what is the general name for this type of mode?

It is called Hoard for Gears, Firefight for Halo, now Survival for MW2.5 (aka MW3)

Everyone is doing it, yet everyone has a different name for it.

Arena mode?

Does this have some kind of precedent with RPG/RTS games?

I think it will be as ridiculous as MW2. Hopefully, the campaign will be longer though, so there is a reason to fork over all the money for it (Because....fuck paying for multiplayer. Remember when THAT was the afterthought for a game which no one used?).

COD 4 was great, MW2 was good, but not the masterpiece COD 4 was, and I would play COD 4 more if it wasn't for the fact that the game is HACKED UP THE ASS with all of those speed lobbies, and I swear one time rockets were firing out of a minigun, but that's beside the point. COD MW3 looks like its going to be okay, and given that I like COD, I'm going to buy it, but if its bad, like BO bad, I'm done with the franchise.

Nope, it'll be the next MW2. At least on pc it will be. I still don't get it. They haven't figured out yet that IWNet is a complete and utter failure?

I think World at War and CoD4 will be the best for a long while. Activision puts too much pressure on them now to make the most intense action shooter ever. Which means they won't put any slower/low points in the gameplay, that's what made the others so damn good. WaW, you played dead with a crazy russian commander and then had a sniper battle, then you were in a gunship shooting down at planes and then you land in the water to shoot kamakazi pilots down....uhhh amazing? Yes it makes the highs even better because you look forward to them

Hey guys, the latest CoD game to be given an official Number after "call of duty" (excluding a number after modern warfare) was
Call of Duty 4: Modern warfare
WaW wasn't officially named CoD5, and MW2 wasn't officially named CoD6, BO wasn't officially named CoD7
So like with GTA, it didn't go GTA3, GTA4; no it went GTA3, GTA Vice city, GTA SA, GTA4.
You never know, perhaps they are doing a similar thing; Perhaps, by this highly unlikely, billion to one idea, they may be hiding a game officially called "Call of Duty 5", and that for the past 3 years it's been in production, and will actually be an advancement.
However, this is VERY HIGHLY UNLIKELY.
That's possibly the only way i would pick up another CoD game again, if that were true... so it looks like i might just never pick up another CoD game.

i was on board since Our Finest Hour, and after WaW i got bored; i did get MW2 but got quickly bored, and BO i only borrowed so i could play with friends, but i stopped pretty quickly.
But MW3 definitely won't be anything special, just the same as the others
(And btw, WaW was my fav)

DEH AWSUM 1337 STOREH WITH A GUD AMERIKEN MSG AT DEH END LOLOOOOL"
Wait, what? have, you played either MW game up to this point?

One ends with the only survivors being a Russian, a Brit, a Scottsman, and ONE (1) American after the rest of the teams have been massacred.

And the other ends with America still technically occupied by the Russians, and heavily hinting that the main protagonists of the next game will be the Scottsman and the Brit.

Someone explain to me how that's a 'GUD AMERIKEN MSG,' if it's not too much trouble.

(if this double posts, oh well, not much I can do about it)
OH? I have beat every one.
WaW: The American ending is pretty much "YEAH AMERICA FTW" after you make a supposedly hard choice.
MW2: Has a ton of Americans standing on the white house talking about how they will burn Moscow like a ton of bad asses.
BOps: Holy fucking shit, you go out of a Soviet super submarine you blow up and there is the entire fucking navy, if that was not enough, they have god damned blue angels flying by in formation. How the hell is that not pro American.
MW3: Although this is not the ending, they do a damned fine job of ignoring the fact that the US, Brits and Russians are not the only ones with a large military.

Even IF they were not pro American, they still make no bloody sense.

Activision hasn't had a very good track record with patching their games post-launch. If they commit to fixing the problems that come up after launch, it could very well be the next CoD4. If not, it might just be another MW2.

MW3 to be as good as CoD4? Hell no.

I hope CoD5 is called, "Call of Duty 5: Future Combat"

That would be SO badass. I might have faith in the FPS genre again.

CAPTCHA: battle ikemov. NO RUSSIAN, captcha. SPACE Russians. Hell yeah.

Um, what about the "FRANC3" and "G3RMANY" and "3NGLAND" trailers that clearly show many other non-English nations in the fight?

Also, yeah US and Russia ARE the only countries with the super-armies you need to fight a war on this scale.

We have less than 200'000 infantrymen in our entire armed forces, and our Navy is extremely limited in scope. Germany and France too just have not got the muscle.

USA, Russia and China are the big players. But China's business relations with USA and proximity to Russia you can see why they aren't getting involved. That and the size of their military is constrained by their short-legged navy they are an incredible military force but highly regional.

Russia's military does not have the power to wage a war on the scale they are showing, Russia can hardly keep its self together and has not been a legitimate threat since the nineties. They can cause damage but they will hardly be able to hold off against Nato and the UN.

The Chinese are pathetic military wise, the only reason anyone cares is because of their size which is because half of them are draftees. They have almost no morale, they use weapons from the seventies, they have almost no legitimate air force and they are poorly trained.

Germany, France and England have superb militaries, they have some of the best technology in the world and England has a nuclear stock pile. Combined they could probably take over half of Russia for a time.

Come to think of it, Russia goes to war with all of Europe and completely ignores the fact they rely on the UN and NATO. The US, England, Germany and France can easily beat Russia, not to mention all the other countries of the UN. This is not the Cold War, China and Russia are not massive scary super powers. The only thing Russia has is a nuclear stock pile and that is assuming all of them are well made and accurate.

Oh, and each trailer pretty much showed an army of Yank's saving the day.

Nope. Ever COD game has used the same engine as COD4's

MW3's problem is it is using so many of the same ASSETS! That is weapon models, enemies and specular settings and so on.

COD4 and MW2 really constrast in appearance

MW2 and Blops contrast in appearance

MW2 and MW3 compare quite closely.

It's near identical model with the same picatinny rail, same iron sights, same specular mapping (how shiny it appears). Black ops was able to make a stock assault rifle look distinct.
