Will the world ever accept another white rapper?

Nobody's mentioned Mike Shinoda? The rapper from Linkin Park? Now, before you say anything about how Linkin Park sucks, just know that his solo work and the collabos he does with other underground rappers is absolutely amazing. It makes one wonder why he's still with Linkin Park; they're actually holding him back from an artistic standpoint. And I've never heard anybody compare him to Eminem, so that's a plus.

Also, there's this rapper from the South who calls himself Yelawolf. He's white and I think he's only released one mixtape and one album (don't quote me on that, I haven't done too much digging), but he's already done songs with Big Boi from Outkast, Gucci Mane (yea I wouldn't be proud of that one), Bun B, and other mainstream rappers. He recently signed with Shady Records back in January and he has a VEVO account on YouTube. So I guess you could say he's a white rapper who's going mainstream that isn't being labeled as "trying to be like Eminem".

Isn't Pitbull white? He might be Cuban, but the dude is white. Blue eyes and everything. And he's pretty darn popular. I don't get why though.

EDIT: Seriously. Im embarrassed that anyone even considered Vanilla Ice. He only had 1 hit! I dont even think he even wrote it or used his voice. This is exactly my problem. Why can't everyone make rap out to be a something more changeable? Its like saying water can only take a shape of a square.

What do you mean 1? He had at least 2 that have stood the test of time and these are just the ones that are remembered today like 21 years later.

So ur saying what makes a great rapper is not his raps but what movie he plays in. Man have I had it wrong :/

I think its possible for there to be another 'white' rapper. But success is down to your own luck, drive and talent. I think that if you really want to rap, do it, give it your own uniqueness and don't give a damn about those saying you're trying to be the next eminem. There will always be critics, but don't let them stop you.

We have dozens of rappers in Poland and not one of them is black, as far as I know.

If the first thing you think about when considering making rap is "will they compare me to Eminem," then aren't you already trying to be like him?

The problem is comparing me or any other white rapper in America to only him and not rap as a whole solely because of skin. its what every black baseball player had to deal with after Jackie Robinson.

This problem is mostly in your head... and in Eminem's head, because he of course talks about it nonstop. That's not to be taken seriously; in the school of hip-hop trash-talk he came into, it's just a formalism to declare that everybody is totally trying to be you and bite your awesome style and lyrics.

Not to say that hip-hop doesn't have its problems, like the increasing vapidity of its mainstream culture and, even more ominous, the beginning of splintering of the "underground" into endless sub-genres ("nerdcore," "horrorcore," "death rap" et cetera; this is exactly the trajectory metal took as the stadium-rocking "hair band" was sounding its death rattle). A deficiency of white rappers just isn't one of those problems, certainly not now of all times. The Streets, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Diabolic, Necro, MC Chris, Vinnie Paz, Sage Francis, EL-P, Apathy, Celph Titled, Remedy, Bubba Sparxxx, Non Phixion... that's just off the top of my head, and not counting major acts from back in the day like 3rd Bass and the Beasties. Far as I know, nobody confuses any of them with Eminem.

Guess we'll have to pick a different topic for the Escapist's Caucasian Pity Party of the Day. Is there a black comedian making a "white people do this" joke somewhere?

Don't worry, I was just about to say the same thing. To me, listening to rap feels like having someone take a dump on my eardrums and then kick me in the face.
