Yet another instance of gun violence. The man thought that the Obama administration would ban guns. Video games weren't mentioned, but do you think that someone will put part of the blame on Video games?

Old people and journalists are always trying to bring video games down, so it would be no surprise. I think we've gotten used to people blaming video games, but has any large mass of people really ever believed it?

Wonder if that trend of blaming video games for every instance of teenage violence will stop or at least become less prevalent when the current generation of video game players "grows up" (physically, I fear our generation may never grow up mentally).

Some people will state video games are responsible. Most of them are complete idiots and haven't played one at all. I imagine if somehow on some parallel universe they actually banned violent video games (most being not that violent to begin with) they would see that this actually didn't do a thing. "Hmm, lets blame the internet! Ban it!" when in the end its probably their own stupid fault for not paying police and security well enough for them to risk their lives and their families, actually better schools and stuff so they don't grow up killing innocents like those cops, plus intelligence seems to be on a very low budget, something you may want to actually invest in.

Place it this way, I always consider games as a way to vent. If I can't vent off on video games I might turn violent in RL.

Anyway its like Lios says, most people won't simply believe it.

No, but Republicans will probably try to blame it somehow on Obama.

What I don't get is why they even bothered to mention his fear that Obama was going to take away his guns. How is that motivation for shooting people? Wouldn't that just give the people who want to take the guns away MORE of an excuse?

I think anyone who kills people like this is simply misfiring on all circuits so motive doesn't matter. They probably don't even know why they're doing it - their brains aren't working properly. Then the media and friends try to assign motives, and they always sound too trite and trendy.

The headline should always be, "Another Loony Shoots People," the article can tell what happened, and then leave it at that. There isn't really anything else that can be known or that matters anyway.

Video games won't be blamed. The nebulous collapse of moral fiber in America will be blamed, then there will be an irrelevant list including video games, gays, decline of Christianity, liberals, the media and whatever the person who happens to be talking doesn't like at the moment.

O, this is getting old. People blaming video games for shootings. I think it is funny, for most people your brain can tell the difference between real and gameplay, and most stuff in games never come true so it is funny.

I think, and I don't agree with it, but so long as there are games being produced which seem to highlight or capitalise on rape, murder, guns, drugs and the like, and there are still people in society who are unable to grasp the difference between reality and fantasy, then I think the Video Games Industry will always be blamed for such incidents.
I don't agree that it's always the Games Industry at fault, because more often than not it's one really messed up individual who hasn't had the help that they needed and the game has just fuelled them to go off and do whatever.
