I'm not saying you can't like these bands, but if you ever hope to develop a real sense of what hardcore music entails, you have to try to avoid these bands.

Also, I'm actually shocked you have the tenacity to call me a "motherfucking pretentious music aficienado". For one, yeah I would be a music aficionado. You say it like it's an insult. Do you not consider yourself a game aficionado? Which actually brings up a good comparison.

You know what it's like when people tell me how good your kind of music is? It's like the people who say madden 20xx or CoD whatever is the greatest game ever. Not only is it wrong, it's downright insulting to the games that actually are great. It's the difference between Dark Souls and Wii Carnival Games. Good hardcore requires time, patience. Once you get an ear for it, there's no other genre of music that can replicate the feelings it creates.

You can say I'm "pretentious" all you want, but the truth is I guarantee you are the "pretentious" one in real life. I know that in real life, you relish in the fact that you listen to metalcore music, because it sets you apart from the pack. You only call me pretentious because I trashed the kind of music you like. You know how I know this? Because I was the exact same way some 4-5 years ago. I listened to the same exact kind of music you do now, and you know what? I'm glad I did. It helped me get into actually good hardcore music. But once I started listening to the good stuff, I never looked back. I promise you that one day you will do the same. It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow. It's a slow process. But one day you will wake up and realize "holy crap the music I listen to now is so much better then the music I used to listen to. That jesus fellow wasn't so bad after all". Deny it now all you want, but I promise you that is what will happen.

I'm sorry, but there's a point when subjectivity must be thrown out of the window in favor of objectivity in matters of opinion.

I liked Call of Duty 4; that's not what I'm arguing. What I'm saying is that people who really know nothing about video games make claims like "Dude Modern Ops 3 is the greatest game ever" when really they have no idea what is and isn't the greatest game ever, seeing as their library consists entirely of sports games and FPS games.

The truth is, Dark Souls IS a better game then games like Madden. Have you ever met a real gamer who told you that madden is the greatest game ever made? Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Dark Souls is the best game ever made. It probably isn't. What I am saying though is that people who take their status as gamers seriously would never claim that Fifa 20xx is the greatest game of all time. But anyone who does not want to spend time on the good games can go right on enjoying their madden. I, however, will continue to point out the flaws in the new Call of Duty game, and champion the strong points of games like Dark Souls.

It's the same with music. I can tell you how bad those bands are until the cows come home, but if you enjoy them as much as you say, you will go right on listening to them. And that's fine. But as long as I have the ability to tell you why X band is better then Y band, I'm going to.

Ok... thank you guys for the input. I think I have found what I was looking for. What I was hoping for was to find the landmark titles of the movement as well as some truly good examples of it. From the suggestions I found a few good examples of it, but indirectly I was pointed into the landmark titles which seem to hover around "The Kill"(30 sec to mars) Make damned sure (taking back sunday) Helena/Im not Ok (My Chemical Romance) that gave the movement initial popularity.

These tracks are... Ok, they dont do much for me, but again they are ok. However, what I found interesting is that the movement did evolve in a very short span of time and essentially gravitated towards more traditional metal with some bands like Periphery, The Acacia Strain, Trivium, The black dahlia Murder, As Blood runs black, etc. Some of which I was already listening to of my own accord without even seeing the connection.

In a sense scremo seems to be the protethesis of Metal core because while they share similar traits there is a clear distinction between them.

None the less this has been an enlightening musical experiment.I might have found 1 or 2 tracks I would consider adding to my Caannoo or Sansa clip, But what I came across from these suggestions I found I do genuinely like. So anyway thanks for the suggestions I do appreciate the help, and feel free to continue to debate (in a civil fashion) on the genre.

I have to say it again because you mentioned it: "haha crabcore".

Glassjaw and Alexisonfire pretty much laid the foundations for my taste in music as it stands today. I grew up loving the likes of Blink182, Green Day, Sum 41 and Bowling For Soup. I still enjoy listening to the pop-punk tunes of my youth but they no longer have a place on my iPod.

That space is now held by such hardcore bands as Sick Of It All, MadBall, Terror and Hatebreed (although this band is beginning to grate on me). I'm also a huge fan of the hardcore "poster boys" Comeback Kid and This Is Hell.

I was kinda relieved to see that the bands you listed as "bad metalcore" are ones that I avoid like the plague lol. *phew*

You mentioned Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge to someone else but I've never, ever been able to enjoy them. I appreciate what Dillinger do but I just can't get myself to like them and I like Converge except when the vocals start; the style just isnt for me. I'm not sure why, but some vocals don't do it for me; and it's not like I don't listen to harsh vocals that would be deemed an acquired taste. Gallows, HORSE the Band, Blakfish, Bats, The Flaming Tsunamis....they all have some pretty bizzarre vocals. *shrugs*

As for the bands in your orignal list that I don't like:

Brand New, Refused, At The Drive In, The Receiving End of Sirens, Every Time I Die.

I couldn't tell you for sure why I don't like them. Their sounds have just never really clicked inside me. There might be the odd song, here and there that I kind of like but...well, I'm just not a fan.
