Hello peoples, I know it's long shot, but I was wondering if any UK gun owners know if the Winchester 1887 lever action shotgun (or copies of it) is availiable in the UK?

Just finished watching Public Enemies, a film in which it is heavily featured, and it looks like a lot of fun, would really like to get my hands on one at some point :)

I've had a look on UK Gun Room [http://www.ukgunroom.com/], but thus far I've had no luck :(

I don't think this is the right place to be asking for guns...

I guess you could have it imported or something, or try to get a hold of a local gun store and see if they can get it from somewhere else in the country.

What exactly are you going to do with it? Nothing related to Public Enemies I hope...

Why ever not? I know there are plenty of pro-firearms people here, as well as those who hate them...

Yeah, I could give it a go, but I'm not sure how I'd go about getting it imported hehe.

Haha no, don't worry. I'd just be using it for messing around etc, it's not really very practical for hunting or clay pidgeon shooting really.

Don't worry, I get it. It's a nice looking gun, I'd love to have one hanging on my wall as well. And I guess conversations about guns aren't THAT uncommon here, but a thread so straight to the point about guns was kind of a new experience to me.

Hope you find what you're looking for.

I suppose you have a gun licence? I'm not sure how you get guns in the UK actually.

Maybe you should go to America for a holiday and try one out there.
Not yet, but I will by Christmas :)

It's pretty easy, as long as you know what to do. Just to to your local police station, ask for either a shotgun certificate or a Firearms certificate (I will explain those in a bit) then you fill the license out, send it off, get the security (a gun safe or securicord) then the local firearms officer will visit your house to make sure that's all ok, and if it is he will grant you your license. Job done. In theory.

Shotgun certificates are the easiest to get. They let you own shotguns with a magazine capacity of 3 or less (double barrel, pump action or semi-auto) You just need 1 referee to confirm you're are a trustworthy person. FAC is harder, because it's for rifles and shotguns with a mag cap of over 3. You need to be a member of a shooting club or have shooting rights to a piece of viable land, and have 2 referees, not 1.
