Windows 7 is overrated

Op ofcorse XP is going to run slugish on your computer its an ageing OS you have 64bit hardware so its not getting fully used in XP and if its been installed for many years yeah its gunna give out all over the shop but so will vista and 7 after a few years.


Vista's problem at the start was its random crashes it was loaded with them and im guessing you din't run Vista when it was firsted relesed. xp was not diffrent at first i hated it when it first came out i badly wanted to downgrade back to 98. The reason why vista has had so many problems and hate is the backend is it not like the ones used in 98, 2000, NT workstation, XP and prity much all the others apart from ME. The backend has problems and always will luckly service packs have fixed a lot of issues and for those who dont want that backend have Windows 7 and where all very happy with our OS thats hard to crash.

There is a program that will allow you to save your documents and even everything on the hard drives. You don't even need to format and it moves all of your old files into a new folder called windows.old as long as you chose that alternative...

Still, I would argue that making it this difficult is a punishment to people who didn't buy Vista (justly) because it had too high requirements or had too many security annoyances.

I use Vista.
I've never used XP personally, but used it often at school and at friends' houses.

It's only frustrating aspect is it's lack of support for older programs.

But that's nothing new.
It's a problem that arises whenever a new OS arrives.

Hence, I love Vista. It does what I want. I won't be getting windows seven, for a long while.

the real reason all the people hate vista and love win 7 is this:

they were those idiots who bought it at launch before the editions and patches(updates) came to be. i used vistas launch edition the newer home and now ultimate and i can tell you this.
the launch vista sucked balls it was so bad you couldn't use it. the home edition was an ok OS much like XP but after the SP1 update and ultimate pack vista because amazingly good and that is what iam still using right now.. the idiots who i mentioned earlier are now loving win 7 because anyone who has some brains can tell win 7 is just next ver of vista

Well yeah, I agree with you on two points:

1) XP does suck. I was into vista straight away - I absolutely hated the way XP seemed perplexedly backwards even at the time it was out, and the glaring colors and blocky design simply annoyed me.

2) Vista is not bad. It is a very versatile and slick OS, and it provides needs for every consumer. I have run into some annoying driver glitches wherein my sound card will simply stop working, or a case or two where a background task stops running, but vista thinks it is running(both problems fixed by a restart), but hey, at least it doesn't slow down and require constant monitoring and maintenance. Oh, and people complain about UAC, but there is a big bold option to turn it off, as I have done.

However, I do disagree with your comments about windows 7.

I do agree it is simply vista 2.0, but it is the 2.0 that counts here.
With the marketing of 7, they are aiming it at people who either don't have/were displeased by vista. It is simply an upgrade, but an upgrade that adds compatibility, speed, looks, features and secures Microsoft back in the consumer's hearts. 7 has done everything they intended it to do and more, so in my opinion it is a successful OS.

Also, the general usage side to it-I used the RC for about 3 months, and the only reason I didn't replace vista with it is because it would have taken a day to slowly transfer data between partitions and expand the 7 partition to the point where there is nothing important on my vista partition. And why was this?

Because it is a delight to use. With 7, there is almost no UAC, no interruptions, no nothing. It is finally simple computer browsing. But then, when you want to increase performance for games etc, there are new tools to help you do so, and you can end up "right in the business".

Windows 7 is complete. It makes up for the trivial mistakes on vista, puts Microsoft back in good light, and delivers on the kind of content we would expect from a new OS. I personally pat Microsoft on the back with this new OS, and hope for more success on their part in the future.

Correction: Win7 isn't Vista 2.0. It's Vista 1.0. We've been using Vista 0.x for the past few years.

7 works wonders on my laptop. It had Vista on it originally and I can see the difference. The best part imo is that 7 isn't a resource hog.

Okay, so I don't understand why people are like such raving retards over Windows 7. It's Vis...And ahh-snip... from '97...

The reason why Windows 7 is being proclaimed as the greatest thing since sliced bread is this. It's faster(and I'm talking straight from a cold boot, From a full shutdown to having everything initialised and ready to go, is much faster in Windows 7. Factor in the fact that you will almost never, EVER shut down (sleep being a much more viable option).

It's much more scalable, whilst still being pretty for it. That right there is going to be a major draw, unlike Vista, whose requirements when it was released were freaking high for an OS, this will run on a PC that only runs XP moderately.

It's Microsoft's first OS that does not come running to you every time there is something the slightest bit wrong(XP's insistence in telling me that there were unused Icon's on my desktop whilst I was doing an assignment is probably my greatest view of this).

These are the main attractions I can see for it.

Yes, you are right, Windows 7 isn't that different from Vista. The problem with Vista was that is was incomplete, they pushed it out the door, and you could tell. Windows 7 is slick, polished and works almost flawlessly. It was only ever the little things that let it down. Microsoft have resolved the majority, whilst adding a myriad of nice little features. It feels complete, and that's what people are responding to.

I will concede that Vista received a beating because it was different from XP, and confused new people. It was different, and people didn't like that. Vista was almost always doomed to be a flop, but people have adjusted, and because Windows 7 is like Vista, it's not a big step and people aren't intimidated.

Vista's flop, is as you said mostly due to the media, which is also why this one is going so well. People automatically take judgements from others, and even if doesn't completely create your decision, it will influence heavily.

No, Windows 7 isn't over-rated. It finally brings to the table some features Windows has been too long stripped of, in a package that almost everyone can access. [Not only in terms of Computing requirements, but also in that it is easy to take an old computer and Install 7 on it, Windows 7 does all the work. If you have an Wired Internet Connection, then Windows 7 automatically grabs the correct drivers.] It's going to take a while for people to adjust(I've had it since RTM [Gotta love MSDNAA] and I still have to go to the internet to look up how to do certain stuff).

To use Apple's annoying Marketing Slogan, "It just works".

I find Windows 7 to be great. It's highly optimized, and almost all games run under fine and if there are problems, a small big of configuration can fix this. Start up times have improved greatly for me under Windows 7, along with other areas which have been optimized. Plus, there's the DX10 and 11 support, which is great.

Your text wall didn't seem to point out any technological comparisons, just the points you hate about some users. W7 is not overrated, it's the best thing Microsoft has done since XP service pack 2.

I'd probably claim the best thing microsoft did since XP service pack 2 was include dual core support on the PC platform, or do people still ignore how late that came to the party? (it was first seen in vista RC1, then much later an update was released for XP). Surely Vista 64x, being the first significant 64bit system to be released is more of a milestone than windows 7? Forgive the dismissal of your opinion, but you're flat out wrong, windows 7 does not add as much to vista as vista did to XP (in terms of performance and hardware support at least), and from what people keep saying the user interface isn't revolutionary compared to vista, so really, what is it about the operating system that warrants such a claim?

Rereading what you've said, it may not be technicially wrong, as it may be the "best" thing microsoft have done to date. However XP SP2 was hardly a benchmark for operating systems. The entirety of windows XP was a reskinned 2000 in real terms, and while it is familiar and perfectly functional it does not deserve anywhere near the praise it receives from the seemingly uneducated gaming community.

I'm aware of many of these things, but I could of added a lot of things Microsoft has done, though I just wanted to really say that W7 is quite well done. Though in my experience the change from Vista to W7 has wielded huge benefits.

Plus, really can't be fucked to discuss this under the effects of sleep deprivation. I could debate this topic, but then again, I could just type tl;dr. I'll attempt again tomorrow.

Sorry your post is invalid as you all calling people morons, your computer obviously has multiple partitions and yet you can simply copy your data onto the vista partition and then re-format XP.....

Win7 is what vista should have been, and it may LOOK the same, but it handles like a very differnt OS. the looks of vista, with the the speed of XP.

But finally, vista just pissed me off for the last time. It runs so slow, it takes ages to log on, it crashes for stupid stuff like opening a window, it takes forever to start like three tasks on startup, takes ages to log in.

So I started using XP/ Windows 7 all the time. The experience is amazing comparatively, everything opens fast, nothing locks up, startup and login is speedy, everything works.

You made a mistake in your OP, but don't worry, i fixed it...
