Should I take the plunge?
Yes.

Have any of you been using the RC or beta?
Yes.

How bad Is compatibility for games and drivers?
No compatibility issues so far. Also the 7100 build has a XP mode so if something doesn't support Windows 7 just use that mode.

Is the performance a step forward or back?
Forward for sure. It even seems to be running faster then XP for me.

How hard are they making it this time to rollback to vista?
Just but in the disc and do a restart.

What are your overall Impressions?
Seems to be the best windows out at this time, even if it is still in beta.

So is it possible to to run both XP and Windows 7? If I Get the RC, even if things aren't installed on it ect ect, I'd be able to switch back to XP without too much a a hassle?

I've never done an OS upgrade before, what about game compatibility? Will it break any file paths? How many programs would be un-installed?

Basically, how big a deal is it switch operating systems, beyond getting used to the interface?
Its a big enough deal to not really be worth doing unless your current OS is hell for you.

If your current OS supports all your games/drives/software/media then what is the point in upgrading?

The W7 evangelists will say that their experience has been wonderful but they tend to be experienced computer users and neglect to mention all the work they put into getting the new OS to make friends with their old hardware.
Simple curiosity and the desire to poke around in a new OS basically. I'm not a computer novice by any means, I've just never had two OS on the same machine, and I'm in the middle of several projects, with lots of painstakingly crafted file trees that I don't want damaged.

there werent any problems getting 7 to talk to my hardware, except with the first beta build they released to the public and the only problem there was my wireless adapter didnt want to talk to 7. and that was mostly because my adapter is an older model that isnt fully supported anymore. thankfully the manafucturers released a driver update for vista that also worked with 7 in march. compare that to when i got vista when it was launched and had to spend an entire weekend trying to find a driver for my laptops video card that would actually work and endevoured to make sure i burnt that driver to several cds so that i woudlnt have to go through it again if i had to reinstall everything. windows 7 shouldnt have any of that bs unless you are using hardware that isnt supported by the manufacturer anymore.

Just tell me when it will be out and I'll be outside the door of Best Buy before they open. God, Vista sucks eggs when it comes to gaming. Give me another OS one that doesn't suck your PC's hardware dry.

What does RC mean?
Released Candidate, I think.

Half an hour ago I've finished the installation. It took so long because I had to find a DvD, make another drive, then make it so it dual boots... But the OS looks great and is pretty fast.

I mean, come on. I tried running Guild Wars and it was... I dunno, 5% slower than on XP? That's damn good, since I always run on maximum settings in 1680x1050. I really ought to find a DirectX 10 game and test if it's looking better.

Windows 7 doesn't. I have an E2160 running at 1.9 GHz, 2GB RAM and a GeForce 9800GT and it's good. Better than beta.
