Okay, so I am at my wits end as is my buddy who does computer repair as a side job.
Everything in the C: drive is set to read only, EVERYTHING. I've tried just unchecking the box on properties, using the command line, sharing the folders, altering permissions, creating a new user, and nothing worked. As it sits, I cannot just save something, it has to be a save as under a different name. Only thing I haven't tried that I can think of is a full reinstall of 7.

So, does The E have any clue how the devil to get this piece of piss to stop being such a prick?

The problems are getting weirder and stranger the more "advanced" the OS gets. Here's a couple possible solutions:

Damn, when the command line can't help you, that's bad.

This was a 2010 issue, according to the link that FizzyIzze has put up. I cannot believe that there still is issues on this problem.

Anyway, I think that you need to reinstall Windows 7 if nothing worked for you. lechat said that log in as admin and see, but I think that you already are, due to the way Windows handles user accounts. Check your user permissions, and then update us if needed.

have you tried logging in as admin?
Eeeyup, did no good.

Did everything on that website and then some, no luck.

Even right-clicking on CMD and hitting run as admin didn't help.
Hm. Interesting issue. What edition of Windows 7 are you running? Also, do you think that it is a virus issue, or something from the Internet?

The only solution I can think of is to restore Windows 7 to an earlier point in time AKA System Restore. Then reinstall if that doesn't work. Get ready by backing up your files, noting your installed programs, and ready your application keys (more for MS Office than anything else).

Which reminds me, you can still perform admin tasks, right? I mean tasks changing UAC settings or installing programs. If that's gone, I'm afraid you have to reinstall Windows 7.

Ultimate. We did a full format and reinstall and the same issue was present. I think I got a bugged ISO.

Damn, that's a whole lot of work for...crap, what a hassle. I think at this point it shouldn't be too much trouble to check all of the physical connections inside your machine, stuff like re-seating the RAM and checking the jumpers on your hard drive. It's worth a shot.

The software itself is bugged. Everything runs just fine otherwise, but all files stay Read Only.
