ok so i jumped from 32 bit XP pro to 64 bit 7 ultimate

on the whole im quite happy with it. nice looking, faster, etc etc

only 2 problems i have with it really.

1 - they messed around with the permission control. (also did it 4 vista i think) its just so un-user friendly. to the extent it even stops the hidden admin account from doing some things.

2 - drivers. oh the drivers. hunting down the updates from my drivers was hell. what cant OS be based around a core structure so that no matter how old/new you system is drivers will work regardless????

so thats my list of faults, there may be more but i cant remember lol

so what are your nit-piks of 7?
like it?
love it?
hate it?

you have the same problems as me with permission??? ( a fix if you have one please:) )

Oh god, hunting down drivers was terrible.
And there was that point when it wouldn't start, but thanks to one of the features, I was able to get it running again.
So overall, I'm happy.

On the 32 bit version the drivers are updated automatically(Or if you don't have them the Windows will automatically download them). Isn't it the same on 64 bit?

OT: I love it. Way better than XP and Vista in my opinion.

is the upgrade worth it, I'm using vista now, so can one of you fine gents tell me if it is worth paying the 100 euro for a new OS?

as of now, I am not experiencing any real problems with Vista, and I am trying to save cash for a Thunderbird

thank you kindly,

I was on 32 bit XP with a dual core proc, lame as. Got Vista 64 bit and everything went faster, would still be using it if MSFT had a licensing scheme that worked.. :gr

Tried Win 7, ran like Vista and looked better if anything. So it will be my next tech purchase, right after my PSU.

I love 7. Drivers were not an issue for me, it managed to do it all by itself which was nice. By far my favourite operating system, just pipping Windows 98 to the post.

I never had to hunt down drivers, whenever I put in a new piece of software, it updated it automatically.

I was able to get around most of the permission problems. And the drivers... well, when changing up from Xp, man... you should expect that. Not everything can be solved right away. Its all part of upgrading your OS.

Personally, 7 is nice. I used Vista on my brothers computer and thought its best feature was that it looked nice... at least, nicer than Xp on default. To be honest, though... my laptop is a Win7/Ubuntu 10beta dual-boot. And I use ubuntu far more...

I upgraded very tentatively to Windows 7 from XP and honestly? I love it. All my drivers worked, all my programs worked, and the only problems I've had were random little ones that either needed a few minutes on Google or a patch.
Only let down is how it has a higher requirement of hardware than XP. Generally better than Vista, though.

I don't like the idea that i need to pay for the upgrade if I'm on Vista. It feels like paying for an apology.

I never had an issue with drivers. And the permission thing never really bugged me, on Vista or Win7. And I still love it more than Vista, probably because my laptop is a lot more powerful than my concentrated piece-of-arse desktop.

thank you kindly,

You don't need to update yet if you have a working vista. I had to get the upgrade the first day because vista was removing display drivers on its own and caused me massive head trauma.

yeah, I am not having any real problems with it, it's not slow or anything,

although my cooling died I think, after dropping my laptop of a desk...
about cooling, didn't W7 improve cooling in some totally kickarse way?

I quite like Windows 7. Quick and easy to use, but the only PC I use with Windows 7 is my own, so it's confusing going onto another computer and using XP.
