So the developer preview of Windows 8 is out and everybody is welcome to try it, completely legal.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Windows-8.shtml

After a couple of hours with it I went back to 7.

I just don't see the point of the Metro UI on a PC and that's the main selling point of 8.

8 also removes the start menu which is just crazy. Hitting the Windows key takes you to the Metro thing.

I like the new explorer tweaks for browsing folders. The new Taskmanager is also nice. And that's about it.

BTW: It's pre-beta. Obviously don't use it as your primary OS...

I wasn't interested before, I'm not now. I'll stick with 7 for awhile. Microsoft doesn't need more of my money anyway.

I can't say I really care. I only really use Windows for games or specific software that requires it. So far Windows XP has been sufficient for this. Only very recently, when I bought a new PC, I purchased Windows 7 along with it, mostly because XP is no longer going to be supported in a few years.

I really can't understatnd this concept : new interface for multimedia stuff, ancient, rusty taskbar for applications.

It's just like adding something like...

...to old solution and name it "something new and innovative". Bah... I remember Windows XP Media Center episode. Long story short : it was sh*t.

I certainly won't pay for it unless someone can convince me that it is in some way better than Windows 7. I'll probably try it just so I know how it works but I'm not going to bother during beta/dev version testing as things will change on the final release.

From what I've seen it seems a little pointless if you're not running a touch-screen interface of some kind, though Microsoft usually find some kind of useful feature to throw in that makes me just willing enough to upgrade.

Awesome, they slapped a Windows Phone GUI on top of Windows 7. Take my money, Microsoft!

Seriously, it looks terribly inefficient and useless.

Well I'm quite satisfied with Windows 7 for now, so I think I'll pass. Besides, the last Windows was good, which means the next one will probably suck. That's the pattern after all.

As a Linux user, I'll stick with Linux. In my opinion, it's been a long time since Microsoft has released anything worth the money they charge for it (with the exception of the Xbox 360).

I'm not downloading anything, but to me it just looks like something that would be much better received if named 'Windows: Tablet Edition'. Making it seem like one of the series, when it so clearly isn't, just throws their PR down the drain.
That was my thought exactly.

It should just be a tablet only thing. Drop the Metro UI for PC's.

But then again, without the tablet interface, the upgrades seem really minimal. Might as well release them as a service pack.
