Service pack 3 has come up in a little bubble on my start bar and I was wondering if Ishould commit to downloading this.
All files I have are fine to be backed up, but I am more worried about how big it is and any instability issues.

So the question is; should I install this update?

I've been running SP3 for a while now and had no problems with stability.

Voice of dissent: I have a friend who had MAJOR problems with her laptop after installing SP3, to the point to having to call me up from five states away so I could walk her through downgrading. I dunno if it's an isolated incident, but SP3 apparently ate her RAM for breakfast and rendered the whole thing inoperable.

Might be different for others, I admit to not knowing what her specs were. Just, yanno... Word of caution.

My housemate spent a whole day trying to figure out what was wrong with her laptop before pinpointing it to be the newly installed SP3; her laptop couldnt connect via wireless to our router and as above it ate the RAM. Upon looking it up she found that the wireless problem is common for some laptops when SP3 is installed not having looked into it myself I have taken her word for it and my laptop is still happy on SP2.

My work has finally moved its 600 computers over to SP3, apparently XP is now stable enough for networks. I'd say that a recommendation from a multi-million pound company cant be a bad thing.

Another voice saying don't do it. Recommendation from a network administrator who works in, at last count, 48 different offices/companies a week. So far only one group have had no issues and that's because they're very very strict in how things operate. I'm guessing Leviano would be working in a similar environment.

YMMV

Very strict workplace when it comes to there setup and network. Mainly because without PC's, we dont have a business.

Who knows why but after upgrading I had slow boot ups, random crashes and Fallout 3 began to fall apart - since taking it back to a pre-sp3 restore point my PC has been back to its normal self. God knows why though, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it after my experience.

Slower boot times no actual crashes or other issues beyond the slower boot times. One big, and I mean very big issue though was I was running the Vista Transformation pack on SP2 prior to the upgrade. I only found out afterwards that SP3 kills that stone dead and WON'T let you re-install it. Waiting for Vista TP 9 with SP3 compatibility to come along now.
