Windows Vista and Xbox 360

I have been contemplating buying a 360. There are moments when I just have to have one and others where reason and sanity take over. Wait for the PS3, it uses a cell processor design! Keyboard and Mouse setup is superior. I already have a 360 controller on my PC. I want a new graphics card and dual core processor.

But, one aspect I never considered is the fact that Gears of War and Halo 3 will have PC versions. Couple that with the fact that you can play Xbox Live players through Vista and it begs the question...Is there a compelling reason to drop $400 plus on a 360 when I can replicate the experience (minus the big TV) on my PC?

Where did you read that Gears of War and Halo 3 will be on the PC? I thought that those two would be exculsive to the 360 and if that's the case that those two alone are a good reason I guess. I am just going to try my hardest to wait untill 2007 before choosing.

Maybe things have changed, but here is where I initially heard about GoW on PC.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/612/612066p1.html

There were other similiar articles after E3 2005, but I haven't heard much about it lately. They might hold of on the PC version to sell 360's. But, I can wait:(

exclusive doesnt mean a whole lot anymore.

i believe halo 2 is being made for windows vista, but nothing has been announced as far as gears of war and halo 3, if they do goto pc youll likely have a long wait.
You might be right. They could delay the release on PC to sell 360's. But, who knows?

If big 360 titles like H3 and GoW, do get released for the PC at launch or are ported later, why buy a 360 if you already have a Vista PC?

I for one see no reason to get a 360 if this is the case. I don't hold allegiance to the PC or anything, I like consoles too, but I would rather save my money for my PC if I can get the killer 360 apps on it.

If you're strictly a console gamer, then great, but if you maintain a gaming PC and a console, then why upgrade your console to the next gen, when you could just use the money to upgrade your PC to the next, buy the PC versions of the big 360 games, and have the advantage of using a mouse/keyboard against consolers in shooters over XBLive?

i dont think you will see many pc vs console shooters, i think its a flawed concept and rather moronic idea probably thought up by some pussy who cant win againts pc gamers so in his genious was like what if i could play againts console players then i could finally win...

personally i have no intention of cross platform gaming with anyone for any reason cause the idea is stupid, if your a pc gamer fine play the pc version with other pc gamers or console on console. games like shadowrun are a complete waste of effort, money and time i wont buy it and im not going to buy other cross platform multiplayer games.

if it were me id upgrade the pc to play the pc only games halo 3? gears of war? phsssh i want crysis and a 200 watt ati card! lmfao, the question though is how long would i have to wait to get the mass effect trilogy on pc? probably way to long.lol

what i would do is get the 7900GS for 200 and an xbox 360 for 400 still cheaper then the ps3 and youll never have to play another shitty metal gear again.
Whatever your views on using a mouse and keyboard as an advantage over users with controllers may be, it does not hit the heart of the issue...If I can get the same games on the PC and play XBlivers through Vista, why get a 360? The appeal of the OXB was Halo/Halo 2 and XBLive, period. Those two things singlehandedly made the Xbox a viable platform.

They brought three great things to the console market that PC Gamers enjoyed for years:

1. A really great FPS series (Halo/Halo 2)
1. LAN Parties (Halo)
1. Online Multiplayer (XBL/Halo 2)

Of course Halo/Halo 2 fueled this all...thus, if these killer console making apps will be on the PC, why get a 360 at all?

Many complain alot about console prices, PS3's $600, 360's $400, and the Wii's $250. But the lastest ATI card cost about $360, the AMD dual core runs about $300 and 1gb of DDR ram cost from about $80 to $150 that plus a vista upgrade is well over $700. That's a PS3 a controller and game for the price of a full upgrade on a computer.

I suppose it's just a preception that we have about consoles that makes us complain about the price.

I guess my point is missing the mark. I am saying that I see no compelling reason anymore to buy a console IF Microsoft brings the same games and community interface to the PC. Like I said in an earlier post, MS really invigorated the console market with Live and the Halo series. IF PCs can get the games in a timely fashion and Vista delivers on its promise of a Live type community interface, then I see no reason to get a console. Well...maybe a PS3 and...a 360 would be nice for the guest room];)

Like you said LordCancer the lines are blurring between the PC and consoles. Ultimately the differences will be in the intended use of each. It will cost me more money to maintain a gaming PC than a console, but I also get a full functioning computer, not just one for gaming. Thus, if Microsoft delivers on its promise, the best aspects of the Xbox will come to the PC, where the ideas originated in the first place (Online gaming/Great FPSs). Microsoft is certainly going to put some serious marketing behing PC gaming when Vista comes out, but will the features be there? If they are, I say leave the consoles behind and buy a PC with a proper, full functioning OS.

Plus, if you wanted to, you could certainly design a PC for living room gaming. A SFF PC with a liquid cooling system would actually make a much quieter alternative to the annoyingly loud OXB and 360.

I'm no PC fanboy, but the future is looking bright.

I agree...consoles are cheap by comparison. Anyone who disagrees doesn't now how to add. I usually buy the last generation components that still have the power to provide a good graphical experience. Even staying just behind the cutting edge has been pricey.

I have been particularly surprised about the PS3 getting slammed for its price. In a couple of years studios will be turning out games with mind blowing graphics and physics that will make 360s look antiquated. Cell processing has a lot of untapped potential. Of course this is a lot of hot air, since it is unproven as yet, but it sure does look good on paper.

You've convinced me LordCancer. Now I not only have to upgrade my PC next year, but I am going to have to buy a 360. Damn you!

well one nice thing about the 360/pc is that they can communicate with each other.... I often connect to my CP through the 360 " on the other side of the house" to stream videos/images/music off the PC onto the TV...

but when it comes to games.. some games will make the multi jump..some " x-box exclusives" included... however MS is smart enough to know how much wiser it is to keep their biggest titles on the systems they are developed for to better drive sales for their console, and or PC games..

so why not just go and do both :)

It...It's Alive!

I was shocked to see it's from 2006, who dug this up?

Anyway, I think the 360 and PC are radically different.
