With the recent release of Windows 7, I am considering whether to upgrade from Vista or not. Unfortunately, I have not heard much on 7, aside from the graphical upgrade and slightly smoother processing speed touted in the advertisements. So I have some questions:

1. What should I seriously consider in deciding between Vista and 7?

2. If I do upgrade to 7, should I wait for the early issues of 7 to be addressed before switching, as was recommened for Vista?

3. If I do upgrade to 7, should I upgrade from my 3-year old laptop to a new one with 7 pre-installed, or simply uninstall Vista and install 7?

Serious replies are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The difference between Vista and 7 is huge!

Those of us that doubled/tripled our memory to make Vista a feasible OS for gaming and such will just be amazed at the performance if you run 7.

I got 8g of memory on my Desktop and found my OS to run pretty good. But Switching to 7 was just insane. The OS is always up in moments... like seconds!

I would take advantage of the upgrades or just get the free beta version till June or July then upgrade.

But you got to go for it. It is everything Vista should have been!

Windows 7. The bug free version of vista.

To all Vista users "Ha Ha! You payed for a beta product *duh dum tish*."

Well, I wouldn't jump on 7 just yet, I'd wait 2 months or so, for a patch of sorts. THEN get 7.
Important thing to consider, the Compatibility with games and software you use.

Yes, for 2.

3) Depends on funds, but frankly if you're gonna upgrade don't get a pre-fab. Unless you are desperately [trike]Retarded[/S] silly at stuff like that. A techy should provide a proper response.

Also sorry for lack of serious response, I'm listening to this.

1) Well you may want to make sure all your programs are compatible with Windows 7. I think there's a working backwards-compatibility mode for Windows 7, but I'm not entirely sure.

2) That's what lots of people are saying. I suppose you would want to wait at least until service pack 1.

3) That's up to you to decide if you want to replace your laptop or not.

Hope this helps.

This reminds me of those Old Spice shower gel commercials... "What if I have more hair down here than I do up here, is Old Spice right for me?"

I wonder, has anyone had any luck running Adobe Premiere CS4 on Windows 7? I'd like to do the upgrade, but like game consoles, cars and everything else: I'm hesitant to get the newest thing just as its coming out - and historically, I've been correct to do so with one exception...

Super Nintendo.

in short: there's fixes and new things you could do with in 7. if you can get it then go for it.

in detail.

1. if you're deciding between vista and 7 from a 'pre-vista perspective' you should go 7. since you're already on vista, you should think about getting 7

2. there isn't nearly enough issues that need to be addressed that would warrant not upgrading to 7. you should be fine.

3. well if its a really bad laptop then obviously you could get a new one but i suppose you could save money by just getting 7 and do a clean install if you feel it needs a refresher.

the authenticity of this post could be debatable since I'm only running build 7100 (aka the release candidate) but there's no harm in acting on any of this information.
