Intro: Hi, this is my first time posting review so forgive me if I mess up at any time. Anyways, to the actual review. I had recently watched the new "Winnie the Pooh" movie that came out and I'm glad to say that it was a fantastic movie. It was cute, nostalgic, well written, well made, and was one of the funniest movies I have seen in a while. (which is saying something) So if you're going to take anything from the rest of the review take this, at one point or another you should watch this movie.
Story: *Start really bad John Cleese impersonation* One day, Winnie the Pooh got out of bed and was really hungry. Sadly for him, he had no more honey left so he goes out to see if any of his friends were willing to share with him. On his way he meets Eeyore, who seemed even gloomier than usual. Turns out that Eeyore has lost his tail. Pooh and all of his friends get together soon after to find a replacement tail but with no success. The next day Christopher Robin has gone missing. Pooh and friends jump to the conclusion that their good friend has been kidnapped by a backson and set out to save him. *End really bad John Cleese impersonation*
There are pretty much three plots that are simultaneously happening.
-Pooh is trying to get something to eat.
-Everyone is trying to find Eeyore a replacement tail.
-And everyone is trying to catch the backson in order to save Christopher Robin.
Of course we all pretty much know how it will all end, so we are pretty much left in the company of the characters. And that is all it needs for the best part of the movie would be Pooh and his friends. They all play off each other really well and have their own funny moments. It's just fun to see the overly energetic Tigger having a boxing match with a reluctant Eeyore or seeing Piglet failing to help his friends get out of a hole much to Rabbit's sanity.
Voice acting: There's not much to say about the voice acting. It's really good. The legendary Jim Cummings does great as usual as Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, John Cleese does a great job adding that extra bit of whimsicalness, (don't think that's a word)and everyone else does just as good, with the exception of Jack Boulter who played Christopher Robin. Something just seemed off about him. It doesn't matter because he wasn't in the movie much and plus, I'm just nitpicking.
Animation and artsyle: It's great. That is all I need to say. Just the fact that it was traditional 2-d animation was enough make happy, but yes, the animation is far above average. Afterall, we just don't see enough of these in the theaters anymore.
Conclusion: This is a great film. How many time have I said that now? 75? 76? If you have kids or younger siblings take them to see it, if you have fond memories of Winnie the Pooh go see, if you want to see a well done, traditionally animated movie go see it.
P.S. Also, I want to ask something. Who the hell was the genius who decided to release this movie on the same day as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows? What was Buena Vista thinking!
P.S.S. Fell free to give constructive criticism of my review so that I can improve for next time. Thank you.
