I'm coming down off my PC gaming stint and looking to get back into Xbox Live. Before I do though, I'd like to get a wireless adapter so I won't have to move my console from room to room. I was wondering what anyone's experience with the wireless adapter is/was like, so I know what I'm getting myself into.

Details like wireless router brands and lag time would be appreciated. Right now there's a Linksys router set up about 15-20ft from my room.

Your setup is pretty much the same as mine. I've got a Linksys router set up in the next room over, and I've found that I'm pretty much lag-free, most of the time. There are occasions, though, when my connection just drops for no apparent reason, but research has told me that this is due to the fact that the Linksys router isn't exactly conducive to gaming, rather than any fault with the Wireless Adapter.

In short, it works like a charm for me. I'm still ticked that I actually needed to buy one, though, and at 99 bones to boot. No integrated wifi, in this day and age? Even Nintendo understands that much. There is no excuse.

Just make sure your network's setup is supported. Our home network is WPA and I couldn't use our old Linksys as an adapter because it didn't support WPA, only WEP. Had to buy a new adapter after all.

Methinks Microsoft got one over you, if you think they forgot to install wifi...

I never bothered to get wireless myself, but I did find this article about getting wireless on your 360 for about 50$ instead of the ridiculous 100$:

http://www.planetxbox360.com/article_5460/How_to_Add_Wireless_Capabilities_to_a_Xbox_360_for_Free

Yeah, the title is a bit misleading. I'm not sure if it works for you, but you might find the article helfpul.

Maybe if I had stuck with my computer tech class, I'd go for it. But yeah, I don't wanna go fiddling with stuff I have no clue about and end up wasting $15 bucks or whatever.

Why don't you just run a few cables? It's kinda fun, takes up a lazy afternoon and is more reliable.

My door being at the end of the hallway, which is already cluttered with crap, would make tripping over it very easy, and running the cord along the ceiling would just be a pain the ass (not to mention unsightly). Otherwise, I would've done that a long time ago.

I have a super long ethernet cable that goes from my computer room to the xbox. Ghetto Xbox Live ftw!

Wireless adapters are overpriced peices of... Actually pretty good stuff. I set it up in my basement floor, with the adapter on the other side of the house on the main floor, and it still works really good. Use it, it won't let you down... Usually. At least you don't have to deal with tripping on a cord and dropping the connection.

ethernet cable from the back of your xbox, to a slot on your laptop/desktop then start>network connections then drag and highlight both the lan that repesents your xbox and your internet connections( I'm making the assumption that you only have those two running at the time) then right click and select "bridge connections". Easy-peasy, if im not being very clear there's plenty of videos on youtube detailing how to do it.

Did I mention my computer and my Xbox are not in the same room? Like, not even close.

I have a simular set up. My connection isn't great. There's quite a bit of lag and every now and then the connection will just go suddenly and completely. It works just fine when I reconnect.

I've gotten used to it, simply because I don't really have an alternative.
