So what do you guys think are the best weapons and armour in the witcher 2 and if you know, where do you find it?

MEH @ chapter 3 equipment.

Sure, their stats are the highest, but you don't have them for long enough for them to be the "best."

I'd say the best silver sword is probably a robust meteorite sword .. I go with blue 'cos I like doing damage with signs .. craftable early in chapter 2.
The best steel sword is probably a jagged blade .. craftable at the start of chapter 1.

Both of these are nice 'cos you get a lot of use out of them.

Armour is .. well .. largely irrelevent, I found.
For me, most important is to have 3 enhancement slots so I can put in stuff that adds sign damage.
Although, there is a particular armour in (one side of) chapter 2 that adds 50% bomb damage .. that thing is hilarious if you're playing alchemist.

well he did say "in the witcher 2" :p

robust meteorite swords are the best silver swords in Act II if you side with Iorveth at the end of Act I that's true. on Roches side of the story there is a somewhat hidden epic silver sword called The Blood Sword that is awesome (hidden in a mine under Vergen which is bloody annoying when you play Iorveths path on a second play through and can't get to it lol) the balance to this being that on Iorveths side you can get Gwyhyr which is the best normal sword in Act II.

there are far better swords than the jagged blade and better swords than the Jagged Blade in Act I not that it matters a great deal if you playing a heavy sign build but mentioning that is the important part i guess :p
There's a better sword than jagged blade at the start of chapter 1?
(hmm. I don't even recall a better sword in the entirety of chapter 1)

Same deal with your mention of the blood sword ... once you cross the mist you're near the end of chapter 2.
So, it's almost on par with chapter 3 weapons in how much use it sees.
Gwyhyr is almost as underwhelming .. the black kaedweni sword can be picked up some 5 minutes into chapter 2, so it sees more use.
I mean, it speaks volumes about how much respect I have for a weapon, when I go "I'm going to replace it soon, so ... here's some crappy sun runes"

I judge how good a weapon is by its damage divided by how long I use it for, relative to other weapons in that stage of the game.

sec and i'll extend this post...

imo the best steel sword in the game is the Forgotten Vran Sword you get from killing Dethmold (on Roches path?) in Act III and looting the key that allows you to loot his safe (i love this sword: it freezes enemies and with the next hit you shatter them :D) or failing that Caerme which you get the recipe for from decoding the Encrypted Manuscript in Act III

technically Caerme is the better sword but that ignores the effect the Forgotten Vran Swords freeze effect has in actual combat.

the best silver sword is Addan Deith or Zerrikanterment depending on build. Addan Deith comes from a chest during the Gargoyle quest during Act III and Zerrikanterment that can be crafted from a pattern sold by the Mage blacksmith guy in the same act.

the best armor is the Vran Armor you craft in Act 3 that you have to do the 3 act Mystic River chain to do OR the Armor of Ysgioth you can craft it from depending on build

the best gloves, legs, boots are Elder Blood set you can craft from the patterns you get during the Gargoyle quest in Act III though the Mage Trousers you get right at the start of the game from the Magic Suit DLC might be better for a caster build and i've heard there are a pair of "Mage Gloves" hidden in late Act II somewhere.

updated with corrections and item names

ask again if you want to know about the best in the previous acts
Well, these. They make you uber awesome... it's just such a shame you only fight a few rotfiends and gargoyles with this gear. I think they really needed to make Ch 3 a lot more epic.
