While it's good to hear a dev take such a stance about DRM, I'm afraid I'll go with "I'll believe it when I see it", specially considering that they're going to have to reach an agreement with a big publishing company (or most likely they already have), and said publishing company may force the DRM upon them.
They already proved it with Witcher enhanced edition.

Plus, from what I understand they already have a publisher, since they're showing off Witcher 2 to the public.

OT: I ran out of good things to say about these guys a while ago.

So I'll just re-iterate, I fucking love these guys.

Suddenly I understand why CD Projekt is so cool. I did not know this.

The Witcher is a good game, you should all buy it if you like RPGs. I'm gonna pick up Witcher 2 the day it comes out.

I'm probably never going to finish The Witcher, but I am glad I bought the game. They had problems with the copy protection they used in the first game, so they removed it. They also gave the enhanced edition to anyone who owned the regular game free of charge. I am definitely more inclined to buy anything they make because I was treated like a human being and not a bag of money. If I have extra money I may just buy Witcher 2 and leave it in the packaging never bothering to play it just to say that I approve of their way of doing business.

How come no ones mentioning the awesome DRM the witcher had? It was like Batman AA (where you couldn't glide if it was cracked), it didn't stop you from playing it when cracked, but it would remove important plot characters making it impossible to finish the game if you were playing illegally.

Cause it actually broke the game completely if you had a certain type of DVD drive. They had to remove it eventually.

There is no good DRM, period. Most of it is a scam perpetrated by shady programmers that can't handle making real, useful software (cough securom cough).

The pirates are not the market, stop spending money and development time on them. Focus on giving the best possible experience to customers who buy the program. Why doesn't every damn game come with a t-shirt?

Remember code wheels? Or manual pages? Back when games came with well bound, good paper, functional manuals and not the out of date crap (or worse just a PDF) that modern games seem to contain. How about cloth maps? Anyone over 20 here remember those?

For an example of what a game package should be:

Cloth map, coin, good looking manual, supplemental story material (also a clue to an adventure in game), reference charts, coin.

If all a publisher is offering for $50 is the bits on a disk then they have an inferior product to the pirates. If they were offering all of this stuff then a gamer would have motivation to buy instead.

"copy-protection should never impede the use of legitimate copies of games"
And how the hell are they going to pull that off? Still, I like that they're trying and I think I'm going to join the applause.
