I don't physically harm myself, but I do subconsciously sabotage my life. I'm not sure if that's better or worse.

The only thing I've seen from this thread is one dude trying to justify self harm, which in itself sounds stupid. Self harm can never be good because you're trying to gain joy from doing something you aren't supposed to be doing, those endorphins are there for when you're in the middle of combat and need something to keep you going, not for when you're bored one day and decided it'd be fun to cut yourself.

I got my girlfriend to stop cutting by keeping her blood stained razors in my closet, so I have some experience with this. Honestly, I see absolutely no reason for someone to deliberately hurt themselves. And don't tell me it releases pleasurable endorphins. Exercise or watch your favorite movie or turn on the comedy channel or play a video game or hang out with friends or cook your favorite meal instead of digging a razor into your flesh. It's a silly and dangerous thing to do.

Self-harm is just one telling those around them that "Hey, I can't deal with these problems on my own. Please help me."

Not trying to be judgmental, merely stating what I've observed. Most people who claim that they do it for any other reason are just bullshitting themselves.
I'm trying not to be angry about this.

And of those who never tell anyone? Are they just attention-seekers too?
