Name: Dan
Gender: Male.
Age: 15
Appearance: Dan is Caucasian. He's small for his age at around 5'5". Dan is lean boy, with little muscle to show to the ladies. His hair is a dark brown and is often a convoluted mess as he doesn't care for it at all. He has no facial hair yet. His eyes are brown. Dan's face is still more similar to that of a child ? he has no noticeable jawline.
Dan wears rags for the most part ?his grey woolen trousers, a woolen black tunic with a leather belt at the hip to tie it around his body and a small brown hat to cover his hair and ears. His prized possession is a pair of boots he "found" during the siege, presumably from a dead boy his age, though he doesn't like to talk about that.
His sword hangs on the left of his belt. He wears the iron cap under his hat sometimes. The spear is usually dragged along or sometimes even used as a walking stick when he's bored of it.
Biography: Dan was born to his parents, both commoners. His father was an artisan that worked with leather, mostly making shoes and boots for sale while his mother sold flax wares. They owned a little shop where they peddled these wares which was a part of their home. They lived relatively well in Lanren's poorer districts.
Dan was supposed to learn his father's trade, find a nice girl and inherit his shop. Start a family of his own and then keep the cycle going ? as it was the same as his father's father and his father's grandfather that settled in this city all those years ago. Unfortunately for him, fate had other plans. The civil war for the throne of Yuda called his father to arms by force and left his shop unattended. Dan tried his best to keep up with his father's pace and support both himself, his mother and his younger sister, but as the first year came to a close their loans had to be paid and they couldn't repay their debtors.
What followed was a downwards spiral of agony, misery and disgrace. They lost their business and with that their only source of income. At the end of the second year Dan's mother resorted to asking for favors from friends and family members and entertaining gentlemen callers that wanted to replace her presumed to be dead husband. The second half of the third year had Dan's little sister die from an illness, as a wave of fever disease spread through the city. Dan's mother couldn't afford the right medicine, and the loss was too great for her. She shut herself in her home altogether and pushed her son away from her. The last thing Dan remembers from his mother is her deranged sobbing as a pair of debt collectors came into their house. He dreaded watching the scene unfold from outside ? the boy just left.
Dan was left for over a year and a half in the streets of the city all alone. He did all sorts of acts to stay alive, fed and warm ? from begging, to stealing, and even kidnapping, Dan had seen the worst the city had to offer and pulled through. Some might say he himself became the worst the city had to offer.
When the emergency draft was underway he was nabbed from his usual begging spot at the entrance to the lower city's grand market. He was given an iron cap, a steel tipped spear and an iron short-sword. The regular troops often laughed at the boy's small stature and his scrawny build, saying he wouldn't stand one fight on his own. They were right, in a way. It was one of the reasons why he was among the ones who fled the city before it was overrun with the enemy and decimated.
Notable Skills: Dan is a quick and agile boy. Months of living on the street forced him to be quick and cunning. His quick-wits and sometimes borderline suave behavior (though lacking the pompous attire) gave him an edge when dealing with others. He could talk a hostile guardsman to spare his life and convince a woman to be generous as she is to her children and help his sorry ass.
What are you good at? Write down anything you deem useful inside and outside of a fight. You can be acrobatic, perceptive, seductive or a master swordsman... but you won't last long if you're useless.
Notes: Dan isn't very religious, but he doesn't take issue with praying for his life when faced with ultimate doom. Who knows, maybe there is an almighty god and he will save him?
He dislikes those that are born into a title or money and thinks that they haven't earned a thing in their lives. He often thinks of those that never went a day hungry as spoiled and ignorant. Dan is fascinated by the word of the lord and appreciates the effort they take in learning the language of the bible and all of the information regarding the faith so they could pass it on to the people.
The character is fine, but I have a few issues:ruedyn said:Tell me if I made a mistake or 7.Name: Levent Bayram
Gender: Male
Age: 29
Appearance: A tall, dark skinned man, he stands at 6 feet tall with a muscular build. His black hair is cut short, and he has light facial hair. He has a few scars, one on his cheek and one on his fore arm. His eyes are grey, and show a certain intelligence.
His armor is a standard variant, though lighter to accommodate his movements with his big, double sided battleaxe. The parts that aren't regular in his equipment are his Worn, olive colored hooded cloak, and a large kris hanging at his side. He is rarely seen without his trusty kris.
Biography: Levent was born in Mizre, the child of a knight of Mizre, and a merchant from Yuda. As thus, he was trained combat at a young age, and didn't know his mother. He kept correspondence with her, however, learning some of the world from her eyes. Because of this, he was one of the few to doubt the reasons behind the war with Yuda, though he worked as a knight and a bodyguard of one of the top advisers to the king. A mouthful, but he was important enough. His name wasn't known, though. When he saved the man from an assassin, Levent became better known, and more known when the identity of his mother was brought into light. His family name disgraced, he became a foot soldier again, and sent to the front lines against Yuda. He noticed that they were different, but altogether human, as opposed to what most of the people he knew would say, and exactly what his mom would say. He decided he didn't much care for the life he was leading, and smuggled himself into the main city to try and spread messages of ending the war. He was caught by the second draft, and was sent to the frontlines next to people who disliked what race he half was. The irony is not lost on him.
Notable Skills: Levent is very good with his axe and dagger, though those are a given. He is good at keeping control, even while raging through a battlefield. He can use a crossbow, though he doesn't like to, preferring to see the faces of those he kills. He is also good at drawing, not that that has anything to do with his job.
Notes: His understanding of Yuda language is rudimentary at best, so he has a tendency to rely on tone rather than words. This does NOT translate to 100% understanding.
2 is much less than 7. Yay!Glasgow said:The character is fine, but I have a few issues:
1. The weapons and armor segment. He shouldn't have any armor, and I'm not sure he should still have his Kriss. Won't he be spotted and caught if he is seen walking around in foreign armor and weapons? He would probably be killed for being a spy.
2. Did he desert his army because of the war? Why did he desert and others didn't? Any specific event that lead to it?
You can describe what equipment you received as a recruit. An iron cap, a sword, a spear, a crossbow, an axe, a hammer... They're all basic and pretty bad weapons, but you have to start your adventures somewhere.
They should give a shit the first time they catch him in foreign armor and discern he's a spy. It's best if you walk around as a civilian and get away from the invading forces. The armor given to you by Yuda's army is only an iron cap (a hat). They can't afford to equip you with anything else, since you're just arrow fodder.ruedyn said:2 is much less than 7. He's wearing standard armor of Yuda, only with some parts taken off for mobility. I also don't know why they'd give a shit, are they going to kick him out of the army? Move him further into the front lines?
As for your second point, it's because he became a social pariah, and decided hey why not move to the losing side, where he'd be more appreciated.
It'd be difficult to hide the whole foreign thing due to not speaking the same language and the differing skin color, but I'll fix it.Glasgow said:They should give a shit the first time they catch him in foreign armor and discern he's a spy. Fine with me, he is half local anyway.
The different skin color isn't a given tell. Some people might be of mixed ancestry. The language part is troublesome, but you said you spoke the language so there's no problem here.ruedyn said:It'd be difficult to hide the whole foreign thing due to not speaking the same language and the differing skin color, but I'll fix it.Glasgow said:They should give a shit the first time they catch him in foreign armor and discern he's a spy.
