I do remember when I was around 15 and a teacher came in to tell us of smoking.
She said what it does to your lungs, and the statistics of people who smoke getting cancer.
Then she says one of the most hypocritical things I have ever heard, and since have not really found one to top it.
She says it takes 5 cents to make one pack of cigarettes and the EVIL tobacco company sells them for eleven dollars.
Okay... lets break it down.
A) The government has put many restrictions on smoking, and therfore have cut many of the place smokers would want to go to. That makes them smoke MORE actually, at home and in their car making them want to buy more so the price has increased.
B) There are an insane amount of taxes on cigarettes in the U.S.A. so the tobacco companies would have their product increase in price because of said taxes.
C) The company needs a profit margin, so of course they want to make it at a low cost and sell at a higher cost.
It just blew me away that she could try and tell me, and the entire class this stupid shit.
ANYWAY! Has anyone else run into something so hypocritical that you had to go, wow, at the stupidity of it?

Hypocrisy is when people say something then do something that goes against what they said

It is Not when someone says a misinformed Statement.

Last time I saw Hypocrisy was when my Grandmother said that Gossiping is bad then started gossiping about other people gossiping.

I'm not 100% sure it's true, but my friend from a different school said their anti-drug teacher went on in, told them the dangers of smoking, how it was bad for them, etc., whereas after it all she went outside and smoked a few cigarettes.

I laughed when I first heard that.

Couple of older people I played hockey with at one point said that video games were a waste of time, but they were talking about all the soap operas they watched.

I just gritted my teeth and got ready for the game. Wasn't time to pick fights.

I don't think cigarette companies make any money on them because I also believe the government makes them fund the anti-smoking efforts.

I could say Republicans, but that would be too easy.

So I'll take one example. That Republicans supported a health care plan that makes insurance companies give insurance to more people, and generally decreases costs back in 2008, and are now against the same plan.

No I meant it like when someone says something that they KNOW is wrong. I think that should count as hypocrisy too.

This doesn't really sound like hipocracy to me (saying one thing then doing the opposite). It seems more like something that was slanted way out of proportion to convince people not to smoke.

I think that's called lying, and I still fail to see any hypocrisy in your first statement.

No it just means their idiots
Hypocrisy abounds. My favorite is the people who say Gays are making a mockery of Marriages, yet they have gotten like 5 divorces after cheating on their wives.
What makes this even greater is when politicians get caught cheating. PEOPLE WHO OPENLY VOICE THIS MALARKEY.

It's already been noted that the OP needs to look-up the word "Hypocrite", so I'll just move along and go with the flow of the topic:

Most recent case of hypocrisy that I noticed was the raid leader for my WoW guild. About half a year back, one of our raiders (his friend IRL, we'll call him Tom) wanted to try and bring his girlfriend into the raids with us. She's a casual player though, and her gear was only so-so (better than it could have been because Tom was helping her gear a little on the side), and she didn't really know much about keeping a good DPS rotation. Not the worst raider we've seen (sadly), but certainly not the best. Anyway, our raid leader (let's say Jim) mocked him constantly about how his girlfriend was a terrible raider and trying to bring her in was a bad idea.

Fast forward to just a couple weeks ago, and now that Jim is getting laid he's of course trying to bring HIS girlfriend into the raids too. The sad thing is: she's actually WORSE than Tom's girlfriend was. Not only was her gear BETTER, but she somehow did less damage compared to Tom's girlfriend despite being amazingly geared (note: Jim's girlfriend transferred her character over from another server where she raided with her last boyfriend, we suspect her gear was just handed to her rather than her having earned it based on her playing).

Jim has since dropped off the face of the earth as far as we can tell. We suspect that he's raiding with someone else so he can raid with his girlfriend.

No. For them to be a hypocrite, they would have to believe that it is not wrong.

Just to be picky, but I think the emphasis on that sentence should have been put on "believe". ;P

11 dollars for one packet? and I thought us british put a large tax on cigarettes.
I mean, at least the money from ours goes on healthcare that ends up looking after the people who smoke.

(actually they make far more then enough to care for the smokers, but don't tell anyone that because it's a secret)

Who says she doesn't believe that? You'd be surprised at the people who actually believe tobacco companies are pure evil, like seriously a step up from Satan himself. But all in all the others are right this is not Hypocrisy. Now if she came in and said that smoking is evil and that all people are evil who smoke and that you'd never see her caught dead smoking because she is pure, and then found her behind the school smoking, then that would be much much closer to hypocrisy than your topic. ^_^

Well, I had a teacher during my 8th grade year who would say (while munching on a huge sandwich that she kept next to the giant bucket of candy and snacks on her desk) that anyone found eating in her class was horrid and disgusting and would immediately be sent to the principal's office . . .
