Wolfenstein: The New Order Blasts Blazkowicz Back

The truth of yesterday's Bethesda teasers is finally revealed: B.J. Blazkowicz is back!

Someday, Bethesda will get around to giving us Prey 2, but that day is not today. Today is for Wolfenstein! Specifically, Wolfenstein: The New Order, a shooter set in the 1960s of an alternate universe in which the Nazis won the Second World War. But there's one man they didn't count on: a man named Blazkowicz!

So, there you have it. Bethesda released a quick teaser video today showing off the construction of some kind of huge Nazi mech while the world burns in the background, but aside from advertising the "Nazis Win!" angle, it doesn't tell us a whole lot. In fact, the most informative part of the announcement is probably the final line of the fine-print disclaimer, which reminds us, "The story and contents of this game are not intended to and should not be construed in any way to condone, glorify or endorse the beliefs, ideologies, events, actions, persons or behavior of the Nazi regime or to trivialize its war crimes, genocide, and other crimes against humanity." You know, in case any of that was actually in question.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is being developed by MachineGames, a studio founded in 2009 by veterans of Chronicles of Riddick developer Starbreeze Studios, for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and "next generation consoles."

That trailer seemed to have a Tarantino vibe at the end. From some pictures out there it seems that we will still get to shoot human nazis and not just robots wich is completely fine by me. The paranormal stuff in Wolfenstein was great but mechs and cyborgs (I presume) are cool too

Nazi mechs, cyborgs, alternate history and some Jimmi Hendrix. Yep, it will be better than the last Activision-published game, very probably.
Anyways, who else got shivers at the end of the trailer?

I look forward to the year long ad campaign that puts the gaming media into a fever pitch and results in perfect review scores with blurbs containing phrases such as "important game" and "transcends the genre."

I really hope they have the balls to put Mecha Hitler in, I can already taste Kotaku's tears if they do. But yeah, I'm hyped as fuck.

...Interesting, I guess?

I feel like there isn't much you can do with the Wolfenstein series in the first place, because for the most part it has to be about Nazis and putting an end to their schemes...

Wouldn't BJ be in his 50s or 60s at this point? Are you sure they can find an older voice actor to do his lines who is able to do his own stunts? This is crucial to my enjoyment of the game. Just as much as graphics. For me, it's about 80% graphics and 50% a voice actor doing his own stunts.
May I suggest Michael Ironside? I think he'd be good for this.

Well, this is a very pretty trailer, and I like the style already, but I want to see some gameplay. So far, cautiously optimistic.

So the Nazis won Wolfenstein then?

Doesn't that render all previous Wolfie games pointless?

The "They rewrote history." line makes me think there might be some time travel business involved.

As in nazi remnants survived in secret, built killer-mechs and time-machine, took killer-mechs back to WW2, won the war, forget about Blazkowicz and eventually lost anyway but at a much later point.

I guess it's a reboot, as has been the case with most Wolfenstein games since 3D

OTHER THAN THAT, CONSIDER ME FUCKING HYPED TO THE FUCKING MOON AND BACK. HUA!

Edit:

Not to be that guy (I totally am that guy, though) but RTCW was mostly developed by Gray Matter interactive, id software just had some supervisorial (is that even a word?) functions.

There is too much confusion indeed...
Bethesda / MachineGames doing Wolfenstein on the id Tech 5 engine, but it's actually a mecha game with the main character called double blow job.

Nothing makes sense anymore.

This may well rock... we shall see :) Bethesda has been busy with a lot of its IPs(new and old) lately can't wait to see if they are in the process of becoming a real top god player publisher/studio and can show how not to go THQ or be an EA.

I like Bethesda. They seem to be the ones making interesting games lately. I like how they're taking this series forward rather than another remake or something. And Jimi Hendrix is always a sign of good things
