I just saw a description for a Wolverine anime now running in Japan and felt compelled to share it:

"While in New York, Logan, better known to others as Wolverine, fell in love with a Japanese woman named Mariko. When she suddenly disappears, Logan comes to Japan in search of her. Mariko's father, Yashida Shingen, is the head of Kuzuryuu, a yakuza organization. It is in Shingen's mansion that Logan finds Mariko, who had been brought back to Japan against her will. It is Shingen's intention for Mariko to marry an influential person so as to seal a political alliance between that person and Kuzuryuu.

During Logan's attack on Shingen's mansion, in a fight with his bodyguards, Logan is struck by a needle. The needle is coated with a poison which greatly reduces his regenerative abilities. In his weakened state, he is no match for Shingen and is defeated in a duel and left for dead. Logan is discovered on the verge of death by the mysterious Yukio. With Yukio's ministrations, Logan eventually recovers and the two join together in a second bid to take down Shingen."

So the famous Wolverine goes from savage badass in other media to depowered loser instantly star-struck by a Japanese girl and forced into an utterly generic-sounding yakuza storyline. Now I'm no particular fan of the character and like anime generally but I thought it was amusing how ridiculously massively the creators lived up to the stereotype here.

To be fair I haven't seen the show and for all I know it is actually very good but I was so amused by the description I felt compelled to share it.

Theres alot I like about anime...but alot I find insifferably stupid. Same goes for the comic book mythos, so maybe the two will balance eachother out.

After all, I really liked what they did with Halo Legends, despite never even having played Halo for any great length of time before.

Actually this show is based on a comic series written by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller and effectively serves as the first time ol' Wolvie was really fleshed out as a character. It was actually a really, really good series.

It's actually based on a classic wolverine comic storyline so other than a few anime style twists it sounds pretty faithfull to the original tale(and warren ellis wrote the outline script for madhouse who made it so i have faith it'll be good).

Thres also an iron man anime(due to begin on g4 in the Us soon if it hasnt already started) and blade and xmen anime's due before the end of the year.

I stand corrected. You can kind of understand how it looked to an outsider like someone shamelessly importing a popular character into a different kind of show though.

Oh its understandable. No harm done. Though you might be surprised to learn that theres actualy Marvel Manga, where traditionally American characters like Spider-man and The Fantastic Four are reimagined as manga characters. To use the listed two as an example, in Marvel Manga: Spider-man is a member of a ninja clan, and the Fantastic Four operate as a Neon Genesis Evangelion team. It's a little hit and miss at times but it's pretty cool.

I may have been thinking of this old article on cracked.com on dreadful manga ports:
http://www.cracked.com/article_18655_9-beloved-characters-made-horrifying-by-japan.html

Who could forget Super Aryan Hitler?

Edit: Though unlike the article I do like the Hellsing show.
