I'd like more context before judging someone. For all I know they could have been joking.

Sadly, my trip behind them lasted about 3 minutes. They were being serious.

So, we were watching a movie in class about how corporations are evil, they exploit people and their only goal is to make as much money as possible. (Yeah, we watch sweet movies like that all the time in this class!)

Which movie was it? The Corporation? Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices? The Crooked E?

The Corporation, actually. The narrator's voice is a tad annoying, though.

Good film. And since I was studying to be a corporate accountant I can tell you that it's true: a corporation must focus on its bottom line and put money first. It is the final but most important accounting principle. One thing I loved about that movie is that they put the pro-Michael Moore segment beside the Anti-Michael Moore segment.

In fairness, while I don't believe she did it intentionally, she did stumble upon one of the big problems in international aid. If we aren't able to actually grow an economy, all we can do is inflate their currency. One of the big problems in Africa is that all of the loans we give them (a) inflate their currency, and (b) require them to raise taxes in order to show good faith payment on loans in order to get more loans.

There's a level of validity of her statement, and it's an issue which can be discussed reasonably and without emotion or vitriol.

A few years ago in Biology in high school we where having a lecture about a movie we saw about the African Ivory trade. After the movie this dumb-but-hot girl stood up in my class looking at her nails and I-shit-you-not said: "I'm never using Ivory White again" (referring to her white painted fingernails), at that point I was laughing so hard I fell out of my chair and was rolling around on the ground. So I was thrown out of class and spend lunch in detention. She was basically the top dog in her large group of friends, so the next day one of her friends came over to me and said that she started crying after I left the class...

That was a good day...
