Lol do people still like football? Damn that stuff is boring to watch.
Considering that its the most popular sport in the world, yes, people still like football.

Why our my fellow Americans so low on ourselves?

We beat Spain and took Brazil down to the wire this summer. We have a legit shot.
This. I think that the US have a decent chance of impressing in this world cup. Though they'll be facing off either Germany or Serbia in the next round if they make it through the group stages. Germany are always a tough challenge.

Except we suck at football :D
The USA do quite well, they are ranked pretty highly in the FIFA rankings! England should do as the team has beaten two of it's group partners in recent games.

I think the US has a shot...but I'm Scottish, so to suggest that any English team will do well is sort of heresy...
It will certainly be one to watch. But if any sports journalists make any comparisons to the Revolutionary War, heads will roll...

I think both will qualify for the 2nd round, but neither will win the World Cup...I can't imagine the US will advance past the 2nd round and England will go down in the semi-finals.

England need to win so all the chavs can get their stupid little flags out.

Besides, won't the Americans get slowly whittled down as they all gradually forget that you play football with your feet?[/satire]

We (England) will hopefully win, although I care not for football. Rugby is much better IMO

Oh c'mon we aren't allowed to get St. George's flags out anymore without it being socially unacceptable! Not even on st. George's day. Don't you think its fair to do it at least once a decade? :p

That has more dignity, if I'm being honest...

Huh. Very true. I never quite understood why we can't fly flags on St. George's day, but I guess when the Conservatives inevitably come to power, we can put all this silliness behind us.

Wait do you mean the US soccer team is going to play the England's football team? When i hear US and football their is only one thing that comes to mind and that's the good old NFL. Get your terminology right.

I personally dont care either way. Soccer bores me to tears when i play it i cant imagine watching it. Rugby and true football now those are sport and can watch play and enjoy.

I believe true football would be the came where you actually use your feet the whole game, and it is also the sport that was pretty much a baseline for other sports.

Soccer while it should of been called football over here as well. it is not the base for most sports. Soccer got started in 1863. Lets compare to hockey on the other hand has it beginnings in Rome. I think that Hockey is the base for soccer. Plus Hockey is for more entertaining because you can hit people.

American Football got started in 1869 so it wasnt that far behind soccer. Plus you can HIT people.

No contact = No fun

Woo! This will be fun! I don't ever expect America to win a Cup (honestly, as a nation--we like our football and basketball and baseball too much) but it's fun when we qualify!

...although, I feel sort of bad for our soccer players because even if they do beat England, no one here will really talk about it.

Well, anyway! It should be fun!

And I want Australia to win against Germany.

I think it will be an interesting match. England should win, but the USA aren't a bad football team by any stretch of the word.

The ultimate hope is that we could win the tournament. (I didn't say it was likely...)

Actually USA is starting to get a slight buzz for soccer again. I read all my friend's facebook statuses and they all go along the lines of "June 10, 2010, the second revolutionary war." I think the USA is gonna get pumped for this game. Odd, we start caring about soccer when it comes to nationality. lol.

I said other sports not most but still you do make a good point.

The thing I don't like about American Football is the stopping and starting all the time.

I'm going to predict a Round of 16 finish since Algeria and Slovenia don't exactly have me quaking in my boots as a Yank football fan, but playing Group D's winner (likely Germany) will be the end of the line for the Americans.
Slovenia are still better than the US. Considering England dicked them with a B team a few years ago, I'm thinking we'll walk that group and probably bring Slovenia with us.

USA and England were picked to face off against each other in the first game of group C.

Should be a heated game.

Your thoughts?
Heated game? The USA have a really appaling track record in world football. The UK also has a bad record, but we happen to see it as a 'real' sport and it has such a massive following, the UK is basically the king of football to the USA's jester. Though that anaolgy admittedly makes Brazil, France and Germany the Cthulhus of football...
