Most of you newbies probably don't remember me, but oldbies will notice I haven't been posting regularly for the past few months. Well I'm back, and for my first act, I'm going to revive one of the older RP ideas that was being tossed around a while back.
Basically, you make up your own country or faction and choose it's location. (It has to be a real country's current location) and write them a sheet.
Your sheet will also have in it, your backround, how you got involved in the conflict, your starting units, which must be weak, and your starting trade type and building.
Buildings provide bonuses to your faction, there are three types of buildings. Business buildings will increase your money which lets you buy more units or more expensive units. Factories will be good for zergers as they increase unit production speed. And Barracks will increase attack power in fights. Each country will be divided into 3 regions, longways. To invade a country on the other side of your country will take 2 turns, but one on the same side will take 1 turn. Each of these regions can have 2 buildings in them, and 1 trade route. Trade routes allow you to trade with other players, you can trade units or goods depending on what you want to lose and gain. There are three types of trade, ground trade, using trucks, harbor trade, using boats, and air trade, using planes. Other players can blockade this by putting units in your trade ports.
Faction name: The RAGE
Location: US
Backround(how your faction got involved: The RAGE are a ruthless terrorist organization bent on destroying the entire earch with fruit, it was founded by Joseph M. Bannana in the 1930s and since then has slowly gained power through government connections and large amounts of money. They were the people who started this war by launching a bomb at the UN headquarters.
Starting units(1 ranged type, 1 one close up): Bruisers, Terrorists with M16s.
Starting Building: Factory
Starting Trade Type: Harbor
In terms of units, you decide how much money they'll cost and how long they'll take, but be fair and factor in your bonuses or lack thereof.
For example, a tank will take at least a week and upwards of 200,000 dollars to produce. For a country with a factory, a tank would probably only take 3 days or so to produce a tank.

Anyway, post up your character sheets, and we are not starting yet, I'm still working out some of the kinks in this thing. If anyone has the ability to make a map of the world that they can constantly update to include new trade routes, attacks, buildings, units and the like, they would win some interweb cookies.

You were gone? Yea? Well so was I.

I don't think anyone missed [i\]me[/i].

Anyway, i've seen this kind of RP several times before but never joined, either because it was too full, too fucking complicated, or it didn't have enough meat on it's bones.

This one? It's looking a little emaciated.

Care to explain the mechanics behind these buildings, monies, units, trade, all those confusing things I could figure out while playing an RTS instead of an RP? It might work, you know, i've seen it work before... somewhere here, i'll find a link.

When last there was a WWIII RP, it didn't turn out so well because it was like Anarchy meets Risk and all current or extrapolatable politics of the world were thrown out the door after being set on fire and laughed at.

Spliting from the governments they worked for and joining together, they formed the Order of Scientific Advancement, currently based mainly in Japan. They got involved in the war after a faction known as 'The RAGE' attacked and destroyed a highly lucrative strip mining operation near the Arctic Circle. Their military force currently consists of hired guards armed with weapons obtained from people of questionable background or invented weapons produced by the OSA themselves.
Starting units:Guards, armed with either an AK-74u or an electrified katana

Sigh

If they feel a little bare, it's because we discussed them over live. As he asked me to be stat monkey, I'll explain them in more detail.

Buildings: They may seem complicated, but are actually quite simple. You can have 2 buildings per region, and everyone starts with 3 regions. Factories decrease the time taken to build units. Barracks increase the strength of your units and are needed to train them. Business centres generate revenue, in the form of a standardised currency, which is needed in order to pay for units.

Monies: Generated each turn, the amount gained based upon the number of business centres.

Units: Well what else are you going to use to take over the world? Your units are your army, and you design them yourself. However, if you attach fifteen rocket launchers to a suit of nigh impenetrable armour, expect it to cost a lot. As in, 'My-whole-nation-is-now-bankrupt' cost.

Trade: It's just another way to generate revenue. However, you must have another nation who agrees to trade.

You control a faction within your nation, not the nation itself. You can devote time to becoming the ruler of your nation, but that would take troops. And money.

The units are intended to be a bit more off the wall, I.E. you could have Giant robots, or laser swords. Why? Because it makes it more fun.

Anyway, any more queries, feel free to ask. Before questions about combat come up, can I reassure you that we are working on it.

Why thank you, gentle stat primate, you're well suited to this task.

Since this is fiction, and i'm looking to have fun, my faction will be...

[b\]Faction Name:[/b] Die Helvetic Bankier Kabale. (The Helvetic Banker Cabal.)

[b\]Location:[/b] Schweiz. (Switzerland.)

[b\]Backround:[/b] A shady secret society who has only recently begun to take over the government of Switzerland. For years they had been using the famous Swiss banking system to slowly take hold over as many shares and stocks as they could. As their influence spread into corporations and companies abroad, so to did their coffers fill. Through bribery, blackmail, and general fiscal intimidation, they managed to have a hand in every pocket of every wealthy enterprise and bank in the world. Finally taking advantage of this, they began to siphon money from their enemies, and run it back into circulation by spending it on military research.

Who's research did they develop it for? The secret Order of the Teutonic Knights. No, not the modern German Order, these men still cling to the old chivalric values of the Medieval Era and have served the word of God for hundreds of years since their supposed [i\]downfall[/i]. But besides the Lord, they show especial loyalty to their King. Only now, the King is replaced with the shadowy suits and ties of big business sitting in a dimly lit board room instead of a court. These Knights serve these bankers loyally, and endlessly, with the promise of their return to power, and the chance to destroy pagans.

Now the Helvetic cabal sets it's eyes upon not simply dominating the economy, but the world.

[b\]Starting Units:[/b]

Order Initiates (Ranged Combat), armed with the new, high-powered SIG 558 service rifles and several other heavily modified automatic weaponry that fire titanium sabot rounds that burst into wide-shrapnel arcs upon contact.

Order Initiates (Close Combat), armed with advanced longswords that have been electro-magnetically bonded and fitted with vibrating cells that allow the blades to shear through most other alloys.

Both units wear the black and white tunics and robes of their order, and are armed with a mesh body suit underneath as well as articulately designed mesh-weave helmets.

[b\]Starting Building:[/b] Business. (Banks, to be specific.)

[b\]Starting Trade Type:[/b] (I'd like a list, please? It can't just be harbors and caravans...)

I expanded on it a little more, anything wrong with my decisions?

It wasn't a lie, it was a sarcastic remark on my perceived underappreciation.

You know where those people get?

Psst, Crowghast, don't break the fourth wall.

Ahem I do wonder if any more insignificant organazations will rise up and try to challenge the might of Science!
