Fuck. I'm hungry now.

In all seriousness, though, I'm not really a pizza person, but any pizza that gets recognized as "the best" has to be something that might change my mind. Shame that Australia happens to be an ocean's distance away from any feasible visit within the time frame, and I'll probably forget about this within a month.

Competition rules in this category are very strict, as only peeled tomatoes, certain types of mozzarella, garlic, olive oil, salt and fresh basil leaves can be used to top the pizza.
That explains how a New York pizza didn't win.

This is the basics, yes, but this is not pizza. what you need is the actual ingridient that diffentiates it from the rest, such as what type of meat/fish and what if any peppers your using. what sauses, ect. what you got is a pizza pad with cheese, not pizza.

Yeah Australia!
If he was from New Zealand I'd claim that as a win as well.
I guess that's a free pass for me to celebrate lol. Now please expand to New Zealand, we need a slice of that pizza too.

Furthermore, despite claiming the title, Di Francesco has no plans to "cash-in" on his fame by raising the price of his pizzas at 400 Gradi, his Brunswick Street store. They will stay at $20 a pop, which is a fairly average price for a large pizza in Australia.
$20 is pretty steep for a large margherita, but I suppose world's best margherita is worth paying a little more for.

We love to celebrate a winner (If they don't show off about it) regardless of how tenuous their links are to Australia.

We'll even take seventh place in a caber tossing competition with great enthusiasm.
Reminds me of the local media trying to claim the pope as from the Southern Hemishpere, as if that has any significance at all.

Wait so Ham isn't part of a pizza at all in USA?

Here in Sweden the main stuff are always. With the exception of a "Child pizza" which have removed the Ham. Even as a kid I never ordered that one.

Pizza dough part
Tomato sauce
Cheese (Not drowned in cheese then)
Ham

After that you throw toppings on and if people want less than that they are nuts.
For me, it's kebab and pineapple that rules the pizza world. Also add a kebab medium sauce as well.
US here. I remember way back that ham use to be a topping people ordered sometimes. I believe people can still order it at most places, but it isn't a mainstay as a single topping pizza(really only in multi-topping use). Mainstay pizzas types are, cheese(child pizza as you would call it), pepperoni, sausage, meat-lovers(usually has pepperoni, sausage, bacon, ham), supreme(pepperoni, ham, sausage, onions & green peppers, mushrooms and black olives). Basically, ham has become specialty ingredient, probably because it is a higher priced meat type.

I for one really only like pepperoni. First off, I'm not much of a meat eater. I like chicken(though it has to be prepared to my standards), bacon(but not really any other pig meat), and pepperoni.

With pizza, I don't like chicken on it, because I like chicken to be not chewy. I don't know what it is, but bacon put on pizza ruins the bacon, mainly because the bacon is rarely crunchy, bacon must be crispy. Now, on some occasions when when I didn't have a say, I had to endure sausage on pizza, the problem is when I eat sausage on pizza, which is really the only time I've ever eaten sausage, my stomach feels like I tried to murder it.

But with pepperoni, I get no problems. My stomach is fine and my body's digestive schedule doesn't change.

I don't know why, but I have a very picky digestive track, taste buds, and preferences(like textures).
