World's worst protagonists.

I was playing Just Cause 2 with some buddies and we came to the conclusion that the game was about a man who is sent into a semi-developed country to destabalize its infrastructure and murder everybody, and we were meant to cheer for this guy.

Sure there is a bunch of expository bullshit, about how the government is corrupt and it opresses everybody, but we really only have the word of about 3 unimportant charecters and the leaders of several terrorist cells. Does that really justify murdering everybody and destroying their water towers and gas stations?

So who do you think is the worst protagonist ever in terms of how little good they do?

Kratos maybe? He's a dick.

Or maybe you stayed true to the title of inFAMOUS with evil Cole.

EDIT: The protagonist can be playable, non-playable, silent, whatever, as long as they are the "good guy" and are terrible at being the "good guy".

Do you mean playable protagonists or just protagonists in general? Playable ones, as the ninja's have already stated, Vaan. Oh, and The Rookie from ODST. He was pointless. Non-playable ones though? Somebody like King Cailan from Dragon Age. That guy made me so mad, still does, even though I've beat it like fifteen times :/

Kratos is a dick? Kratos murdered EVERYTHING. For vengeance. I'm sorry, there is little doubt as to who's the worst protagonist.

Two others come up as worse. Me, when I was controlling the heroes in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1. In that post-game thing of things you forgot I managed to forget something that destroyed the US and something that destroyed the earth. Don't remember what.

The other one is any silent protagonist. I'm sure I'm not the only dick player here. And this is personally why I don't like silent protagonists. It's hard for me to believe myself as a hero when Gordon Freeman has made everyone replace their foreheads with flesh-coloured titanium plating.

Tidus from FFX? He always got on my nerves.
The protagonist in Assassin's Creed 2. I really hatted him. It seemed like his desire for sex was all the characterization he got. Granted I didn't get very far, but I couldn't get over his annoying personality.
Also, Dante in I think it was Devil May Cry 3. It was the only one I attempted to play. He was an annoying show off who couldn't even put his coat on properly. I got bored with that game really quickly too.

Well, depending on your point of view. JC Denton, even though he ruined a corporation that was killing people he kinda collapsed the entire world's infrastructure causing people to rely on corporations more than governments allowing unlawful things to happen. Can't blame him though.

Warhammer 40k Universe, I find that virtually everyone is a dick. The exceptions are the Eldar an maybe Tau. Cause the Eldar are basically the only 'Good' guys, their whole reason for fighting anyone is to maintain balance, protect themselves, or prevent the other retard races from unleashing evil (aka Necrons) upon the galaxy. Then there's the Tau...they basically say "Hey guys, we are going to be creating this massive empire so that everyone gets along and co-operates. If you join, you'll be our best buddies, yet if you resist we will have to take over by force", yet even then they still act merciful and noble compared to the other races. The freaking Space Marines serve a fanatic religious empire that believes that anyone who isn't 100% pure human is a freak and should be killed (Reminds me of Nazis), and then they also believe in killing anyone who doesn't follow their beliefs (Whom they call Heretics). Then you have like the Sisters of Battle (Who are nothing but even more extreme fanatics compared to the Space Marines), and the Imperial Guardsmen who are one huge army under a dictatorship that deems that surrender or retreat is punishable by death.

Aside from Eldar and Tau being good, the Human factions are all religious nuts who are like if Nazis controlled a portion of the universe. And pretty much every other 'evil' race (Necron, Dark Eldar, Ork, Tyranid, Chaos Marines) are all just assholes because they can be.

Why does he make you mad? I mean he does have that overconfidence about him, but in truth it was justified. I mean compared to the endgame, his army was bigger, had teh high ground, and more Warden support. The way I see it, he easily could have won teh battle...

Freeman. All the heroics are kind of undermined by the fact that he was the one who caused the whole invasion.
There's also almost everyone in Mass Effect 2. Not just the Illusive Man, but the council and alliance too. The only person in the entire galaxy that's doing anything good is Wrex. Apparently brains can't develop properly in artificial gravity.

Alex Mercer. Rather then using his incredible powers to help people and solve crimes he chooses to instead go on a bloody revenge and kill (and then absorb... painfully) hundreds of people. There are no repressions to his violent murder spree and in the end when he decides that he's not really human he just walks off to murder some more dudes somewhere else. Never once did he think "how can I help people" or "should I be killing people to regenerate my own life" or "there just the military doing there job I shouldn't murder them for that" No its just NOM NOM vengeance and tissue!
