You know what, I don't really blame them for lack of imagination where pokemon are concerned. I mean, we're on to the fifth generation already; how many more designs good designs do you think there left to create? They've done dogs, cats, seals, elephants, giraffes, crocodiles, mice, birds, hippos, fish, monkeys, turtles, lizards, moths, caterpillars, bees, plants, frogs, horses, etc. The list goes on. What really is there left except big pink beachballs and gears?

There aren't really many more things in nature to base pokemon off, so most of what they have left is man-made stuff. It's got to the point where a lack of originality has nothing to do with it; they really are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

The gameplay in pokemon is pretty damn refined, and after 5 generations and various spin-offs, I should hope so. Now it's just a matter of whether you can put up with the weird new pokemon to enjoy the gameplay.

I just want them to finally upgrade their AI. Pokemon was always retartedly easy, wild Pokemon and trainers often using Pokemon and attacks that made no sense whatsoever.

If they do just that I'd consider playing this, if not I'll give it the same treatment as every installment since Gold/Silver; thanks but, no thanks... Okáy I play HeartGold on my sister's old DS Lite (silly girl got a DSi whilst her DS Lite was still fine) for nostalgia's sake.

Is having a female professor really such a big deal? I mean you could play as a girl in several of the pokemon games already. Is this just to prove that women can do science too?
Japan eh. Fact is, the whole woman-equality thing hasn't sunken in that much in the Japanese culture.

Ohh come on the second generation was pretty cool too. After that they started using acid or something. Not that the first and second generation were flawless. Magnetite, seriously, what the hell? That thing is just as retarded as the Gear Pokemon.

Noo! They broke the chain of tree-based names for the professors! And now have opted a name after a butterfly!
Nope, it's still tree-based. I believe Araragi translated to Yew. So the chain continues.
Hope, it has been give. Thank you, kind stranger.

If they HAD started taking acid, I think the designs would have gotten even better rather than worse.

Wishful thinking eh.
Maybe someone should put a few drops of liquid acid in miyamoto's (is that spelt right?) morning coffee. >:}

I'm getting either allium macrostemon (a type of lily), or eupatorium fortunei (an orchid).

"Professor Orchid" wouldn't be bad, really.

EDIT: Heck, just make it Professor Lily Orchid. :p

i have to say, the new pokemon look like shit.
except for the legendaries and the chinchilla one, they're neither cute nor cool.
the art style and coloring are schizophrenic, to put it mildly.

i think they approved every shitty design they could scrawl down in the least amount of time.
my cousin came up with better pokemon when he was 12.

Waaaah, all the new Pokemon look terrible! Nothing good has come to the franchise since Red and Blue, which were the first flawless masterpieces! Whiney-winey...

Yeah, but not really. Despite the shaky start shown with the starters and legendaries shown before, these 7 Pokemon show consistent and familiar design aesthetics. For those of you who didn't go to art school 'they look like Pokemon'. I was a bit concerned before, but now I'm back securely on board with Generation 5. I've tapped all the fun that can be found out of the previous iterations, and when Springs come I'll look forward to keeping the journey alive with the new sequel, with its new region and its new Pokemon. I'd love to see what some of these new guys evolve into.

Munna is a pink Aron, and Chirami is a less cute version of Calumon. I'm sure if we rated Pokémon designs from each generation, we'd find that they get less well-made every time. Everything in Gen 1 was iconic, Gen 2 had silly mistakes like Stantler but was pretty good, Gen 3 started to slip with guys like Chimecho and Baltoy, Gen 4 has tons of badly designed, not-notable Pokémon, and all of the Gen 5 Pokémon seem really bland to me. I have hopes for the Grass-type starter, but otherwise all of the new designs have just been slightly modified old designs. [/rant]

Really? everything in Gen 1? im sorry but Jynx is awful, along with Eggsacute...and Voltorb was just lazy...im sorry but not everything in that Gen was the shiny Diamond everyone portrays.

And if you don't mind i think Gen 4 has alot of good Designed Pokemon (Chimchar and Luxray are 2 examples) but admittedly, like in all Gen's, some awful ones (Magnazone...erghhh!).

im sorry im not trying to cause an Uproar here but i just thought i point them out.

The fire ape thing needs to be killed with fire... sorry, water and the beach ball thing needs to die in some kind of pit filled with spikes, toxic spikes and stealth rocks.

also, is it just me or is the pigeon pulling the honchkrow pose?

and finally, I believe the lightingzebracorn and land croc pokemon are made of sheer win.

I personally just hope I can trade my current pokemon up without having to go into the pal park. I have yet to find a pokemon I love as much as a Shinx and it's evolutions, and I'd really hate to wait until had the Pal Park to be able to have one with me. I want to carry it around right off the bat.

Yep. Sums up every single Pokemon thread I ever read here.

Actually, yeah it would be pushing it as we wouldn't have (reasonable) EVs, natures, abilities, double-battles, meaningful held items, the physical/special split for individual moves, and a many, many moves for types which lacked so much as a handful.

Dislike the designs all you like, but the games themselves have gotten better and better with each generation.
Yeah. I tried to explain this at least once on here, but that's apparently not enough of a good reason as to why the newer games are better/evolved.
