So do you want to get Worms Armageddon on Vista?

Or are you specifically looking for something like it? Because W:A works on Vista online.

Worms has a REALLY hard time working on post XP OSs. I remember finding some home-made workarounds on the Team 17 Forums, but even so, they only worked on 1 of my Windows 7 machines.

Install beta patch, turn off explorer, load game.

Works on every computer I've tried it on (5 post xp machines, both 7 and vista).

You could get the new one, Worms Reloaded works fine on 7, so I don't really see why it wouldn't on vista.

That was part of the workaround. It automatically did all that in this nifty .bat file, and it would still crash on startup. Same steps worked on my main machine, but personally, I'd prefer it to work on my laptop where it was crashing.

Never had it crashing, so don't really know how to fix without playing about a bit.

When patch 4.0 comes out it should have full Vista/7 support, I've never had a problem with the steps I said though.

Yeah, it was quite frustrating. No logos, just a black screen for 2 seconds before "Worms World Party has stopped responding." The same thing went for my sister's Vista laptop now that I think about it. There is only so much you can try when a program just doesn't start up.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Worms World Party isn't being updated at all, only Worms Armageddon.

World Party didn't have much of an online following so no one bothered with it, T17 saw a guy going by CyberShadow updating Armageddon and gave him the source code and hosts his patches on their website.

Yeah I wouldn't bother trying to get WWP going, pretty sure it doesn't even have a Wormkit.

Try this anyway. [http://forum.team17.com/showthread.php?t=41371] Although, yeah, Armageddon or bust, in terms of old-school Worms games.

I've only played WWP. From what I've been told by greater Worms veterans is that WWP has all the same features as Armageddon, but more. What is this wormkit you speak of? There was a level editor in WWP, how is that different? I also never bothered to play online. If I did now, I'd just buy the new one that came out on Steam. I did buy the trilogy a while back (W2, W:A, WWP) but since it was only WWP that my friends and I were using, that's all I ever installed.

Yeah... no.
It was for a while, but it never had the community W:A had, and because of that it was left whilst W:A got bug fixes, new features and generally helpful additions. Much more detailed scheme editing from in game, ability to check your weapons on another persons turn etc.

The map editor is being updated as well, where you can put mines down in a place and it will always be there on maps, along with fire and boxes. Also Teststuff module has been put in where you can do extra things for certain gamemodes, like fling your worms across water the way you can with bazookas. Wormkit allows for extra modules to be put in, like rubberworm which makes worms incredibly bouncy and you can play with the physics settings to make some levels/game modes. It also allows things to fix certain errors without having to run a .bat file.

I also never bothered to play online.
Then W:As missions are much more like actual missions (IIRC) then WWPs, it is a much better campaign but that is personal preference.
If I did now, I'd just buy the new one that came out on Steam.
I have and it's terrible compared to Worms Armageddon.

Then it really doesn't matter as long as you had fun with your friends. :D

All good to know. Thanks a lot.

If only I could import some of my old maps that were made in the WWP editor. I had this friend who doesn't live near me anymore who was quite a bit of an artist. He made this (probably highly controversial in a public context) map that was a quick sketch of the World Trade Center. It was meant to be more of a picture than a map, but it worked well as a map as anyway. All the loose lines were perfectly placed to be platforms for the worms to hang off of. Chances are it died with the hard drive crash I suffered years ago, but if I could play that again, that would be awesome.

It might work if you could get it, but I never tried importing from one to the other so don't know.

I forgot to mention map size restrictions have been taken out, high resolutions have been added, no more on screen worms limit and all of these work online. Just thought I'd add that, those are things normal people care about in updates instead of what modules you can add.

These [http://www.mnpp.net/wp/?cat=3] are some good maps I've found, you could nab the plane one and add it to the one you made. :p They might work in WWP, I'm not sure if they go over the size limit or not, but they're not huge.
