Kodomo no jikan and Maria Holic.
Edit: And post-L Death note.

They were just so boring.

I also seem to see a lot of people claiming shows they didn't like were just objectively bad, e.g. FLCL.
If you're complaining that the storytelling of FLCL wasn't very clear, I'm sorry, but you don't get it.

Bleach, its just so boring and badly drawn, not to mention completely full of Deus Ex Machina moments.

Naruto: Shipudden, I liked most of the first series(minus all the filler and the part about Sasake growing a big ass pair of hands out of his back) but they managed to completely fuck everything up.

Neon Genesis Evangelion, the creator of this once said he can't understand the popularity of the characters since the are so unlikeable, well I for once sympathize, BTW the ending really didn't bother me just the characters.

I've never had an intensely negative experience with anime, as there isn't such a thing as a reality anime, though I've definitely seen plenty of mediocre stuff. I'd say the worst show that I completed all the way through was Code Geass, which to me felt like a soulless market product more often than not.

The Fullmetal Alchemist anime was the reason I stopped watching anime, so I'd probably say that was the worst. Pity since the manga was actually pretty damn cool, but I guess they thought making the anime shit was a better idea?
sorry for the double post but I didn't see this.
It is still one of my favorite anime series ever but I will say that it failed the Fullmetal Alchemist name.

Evangelion.

It started out alright, but the ending was just soo soo bad that it immediately moved the entire anime into the "worst show I've ever watched all the way through" category.

Apparently the movies fixed the ending of the series, but I couldn't be arsed to care at that point.
oh ya the tv ending is complete shit but i mean the studio was going under they had no funding or anyone working for them at the end they did what they could. the movie is a much better ending.

i haven't really watched all that much anime but the last 2 episodes of Evangelin were pretty much the worst thing i have ever seen

Elfin Lied and Hellsing first come to mind when you say cringeworthy.

Actually, most of them I find pretty stupid, but that doesn't mean it can't be entertaining.

Edit: Glad to see some hate for Death Note. I liked it but it was so bloody over hyped.

Evangelion:
I hate anime I don't understand. Despite watching the series and movies and then reading on wiki...I still don't understand Evangelion...as such, I consider it to be terrible. I realize that those who got some meaning out of this story love this particular anime and recommend it highly..so don't take my recommendation to seriously.
I'm with you, Eva sucks, but my reason is less deep, i pretty much hated the whole cast

Akira:
I've never been able to watch Akira in full...so that would be by worst anime by another measure...for all I know, it becomes amazing after the first hour or so, but I'll probably never know.
no, it doesn't, i sat through all of it, felt like a 6 hour movie, and not even a very interesting one

as for my list?

Fruits Basket makes me hit my head on tables, I hate the main character, I hate the vapid pricks that fill the universe in which this "thing" exists.

though I've never seen that series, I have heard from a variety of sources that it is a subtle take-that to overly ecchi shows... so I guess it's supposed to be terrible.
as for my worst, I really haven't seen anything really that bad.
I guess Devil May Cry, but even that was Watchable. maybe I should try Ikki Tousen, just so I have one awful series under my belt.
but then again I can sit through twilight just because I find it so entertaining because of it's awfulness.

For me it is a tie between:

Dragon Ball Z or pro wrestling as an anime with less of a plot and fights that last 3 or 4 episodes and are 70% people standing still screaming. Woooo!

and the lets scream Inuyasha, Kagome for like half an hour show.
Sure Dragonball Z started to fall into this after the Frieza saga, but Dragonball is a great anime and so is Dragonball Z. Sure they stand around pooping themselves for 5 episodes, but at least when something happened it was the most badass 15 minutes on TV.

Such a good series.

Saying that though Dragonball GT is probably the worst anime I have ever seen.

It has to be tied with Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, and post-first season Pokemon and Yugioh.

I love the voice actor for this, he knew this made no sense.
I kinda like the ending, you can argue that shinji experienced the events of the final two episodes when the instrumentality occurred in End of Evangelion.

There was this one where these animal kids operated a giant mecha. That was just... a collection of all the worst ideas I could imagine without trying to produce a purposeful sabotage or a hackneyed cliche pastiche for a lampoon. In other words. It was a lot of fail. Oh but could turtle san really love rabbit chan, and look at that dance in the intro isn't this show kooky? Right guys? Right? Oh it's kooky alright. Kooky and bad all at once.

What are you talking about? Dragon Ball Z was like that from the very beginning, always standing around powering up and taunting each other, watching them charging a super for a whole episode to find it does fuck all in the next. Then the other parts were filled with cliche crap, clumsy character moments, angry women & drama queens, flash backs and random filler. I think I watched Goku charge up a spirit bomb for 20 episodes, just to find out it didn't do jack.

Dragon Ball wasn't as slow as DBZ but really childish, really really childish. There is no way your going o convince us it's great.

I jumped into Boogiepop Phantom at a random episode with no exposure to any other part of it's continuity. I hated it so much but there's a good chance it had something to do with not knowing anything about what was happening.
What episode was it? there's a good chance it didn't make sense or have relevance anyway...<.<
It had some creepy pervert guy with a simulated girlfriend and the episode featured him harassing this girl at work then losing his mind when his computer crashed.

Really off-putting and steered me away from that series forever.

Oh Yeah I remember that one... but honestly it's been a while since I've watched it though... I thought the show was pretty good...slow at times but worth watching... it really takes the anthology story telling route so it jumps back and forth between different people and events every episode to flesh out a coherent story, with the only thing tying them together being a certain strange event that started it all, so you really gotta see all of it to get what's going on... it's like watching Pulp Fiction...<.<

"Us"? Who is this "us" you speak of? You mean no one will convince "you" Dragonball was great.

I am sure a lot of people agree with me just as they agree with you.

I think the fact that you stayed and watched 20 episodes of Goku powering up a spirit bomb means deep down you liked it.

Wait Dragonball was childish? A children's show? No way!? Haha next you're going to tell me Shindler's List was dramatic!

Oh easily Full Metal Panic, it sucked so hard the windows on my house imploded.

Humorous exaggeration aside, I didn't enjoy Bebop that much and agree that I was promised the universe for what was essentially a stylish and well characterized but far too slow experience. I also struggled with Gantz and Fairy Tale, neither hit the mark for me.

Dragonball and it's successors have never held any interest for me: poor art, overly drawn-out fights and a plot that's bonkers by anime standards doesn't sit well with moi.

Am I the only one who like Evangelion? I thought the ending was pretty good, in the sense that it was quite different, intelligent and challenging. Good use of character throughout I thought.

I'm going to White Knight for a few Jump shows but please don't take it as insults, just my two cents on some shows that aren't favoured in this discussion.

Naruto: Started out less than great in pretty much every department, and I almost gave up until The Bridge Arc. Great pacing, tension, character focusing and some nice art to boot, really great anime arc. The show as a whole has been hit and miss but Shippuden is a much better show, beautifully drawn, fantastic animation and hitting tone perfectly. The manga is reaching the endgame and has been the cat's pyjamas since the Pain Arc, much more meaty and action packed which actually starts to bring some pathos to the show. I tend to find the criticisms of the show are criticisms of the Jump form: annoying leads, too much talking during fights and bizzare characters, some can get past it, some can't, no problem.

Bleach: A slow burner that kicked in it's second arc, stylish and with a nice sense of pacing, got a little too much fan service but it deals with some interesting ideas and has some epic mythology which I can definitely sink my teeth into.

One Piece: A show with real character. Nutty as a fruit cake and with a very Japanese approach to humour that I quite enjoyed, I actually cared about the characters and while the tonal shift between comedy and crisis was awkward at first they've found the balance now. It was horrific to look at initially (eye - bleedingly poor) but the artists have grown into the show and really brought the world to life in a colourful and vibrant way. The ensemble cast works a treat and I get a much bigger lift from this show than any other.

Your feedback, as always, is welcomed...
